So, I remember reading this manga when I was in high school and loving it, but as I reread it again as an adult I find myself not liking it as much. Spoilers up ahead and ranting. The first dislike is Ibuki hana, I know I didn't like her when I was younger, but I especially don't like her now. She's the basic of basic of pickme girl, especially with the BS that as "friends" you should share all your secrets with each other. Friends should be able to tell secrets to each other yes, but once they are comfortable. Not the first five minutes of meeting, and the whole betrayal thing never actually happen since Maria just said she doesn't like anyone, Kanda liking her doesn't mean that she lied, it just means he's not interested at all in anyone besides Maria. The second one is Aya and the teacher. Talk about inflicting your insecurities onto someone else and making them suffer because of it. Aya does redeem herself in story, but all goes downhill when she gets jealous of Maria AGAIN for having Kanda as a friend and him not looking at her as a love interest. The third thing is Maria's friend Anna, honestly I didn't understand the whole arc, but what I can gather is that Anna is mad at Maria for making her realize that she was being bully or trying to save her? if anyone can explain it please tell me. The fourth think is the Maria meeting her father. No matter what they say, I hate the way that she forgave her father so easily after knowing full well that he raped her mother. As well as the parents/grandparents, It took one sorry and sad eye to turn them blind, and forgive him for making their daughter suffer. If they were actually good parents they would've set him packing for making their daughter like that. I don't care that the grandfather try to "Atone for his sin with his life" like maria said he's running away and not actually taking responsibility for his action. As well for blaming Maria her mom's suffering and not the actual culprit, that whole arc left a sour taste in my mouth. The fourth is meguro, I understand at the beginning he wanted to protect her, but him just saying screw it and hurting her more, makes my head hurt. Honestly, I liked Kanda with her more, since he was able to communicate his intention with her more, was able to help her change, and with him, Maria became a better person. Meguro was the love interest but Kanda was Maria guiding light. He calls her every night cause she was suffering from nightmares, helped her look her best for Meguro, was the first one Maria calls when she was being attacked, was able to calm her down when she was having a panic attack, and even if it hurts, he became the stick to make her realize that she wasn't alone., and when he noticed that Maria needed someone else to feel friend touch, he let it happen instead of cutting it off and watch closely All in all, I liked Kanda more than Meguro with Maria. And the last thing is not letting characters besides the main group grow. I would like to know how Anna and Hana become if they had more time in future chapter, but they never appeared again. I feel like it was a missed opportunity altogether. But anyways these are just my opinions on this manga, Once again it was a good read, but just have too many grips to actually enjoy this like i did when I was younger.
