Lil Maniac's manga / #Drama(63)

Complete | Ker | 2017 released

This started out on a premise that i dont usually like and try to avoid in yaoi (lust before love, sex before even confirming feelings or a relationship), but this one really pulled it off so well that i didnt even mind... that much. I love both characters, and its obvious how much chemistry they have between each other. Both are cute and funny, and i love that they try their best to communicate with each other without letting the assumptions and misunderstandings drag out too long. But frig sensei ya really got me there bruh. Making me wait 60 chapters before making them an official couple damn. But ahh well. Its not like it wasnt worth the wait.

A Thousand Cranes

Complete | Jung Seokchan | 2000 released

.. this was... THE BEST yaoi have ever read. It has surpassed all the hundreds of yaoi I’ve ever read and has reached number one by miles. Truly a masterpiece. This has everything I’m looking for in a (romance) story. The drama, the dark moments, the fluff. The themes are balanced and well done. One aspect I love is that though the uke and seme both have dark pasts (especially seme-san), they are able to look forward. They each accept that there is nothing they can do to change the past, so they resolve to look to the future instead. A future with each other, one where they are both happy. Another thing is how they are so reliant and in love with each other. Both are each other’s greatest weakness, but also each other’s greatest strength. I love that the seme only has eyes for the uke and has been gentle towards him ever since their first meeting. He has never once forced anything on him, always asks for consent first, and never allows anyone to lay a finger on him. As for the uke. Damn. I really like him. I never thought I’d meet an uke who is so understanding and loving. Despite knowing the seme’s past and line of work, he stays with him through thick and thin. It is exactly this that has become the seme’s salvation. What I love most about this uke is that (unlike other stupid ass ukes in almost every yaoi (and many shounen ai) ever) he makes decisions that count for both of them’s happiness. He doesn’t selfishly leave the seme for reasons like “he’d be better without me” or “this is for the best”, ignoring the seme’s feelings and hurting the seme in the process. He properly things everything through, and also faces the seme fully and without reserve. He always manages to ease the seme’s insecurities. I am honestly happy that the uke has not once left the seme. Just like that president lady said, he is indeed seme-san’s greatest weakness. But seeing that he is also the seme’s greatest strength, he doesn’t let outside influences affect his judgment, and properly sticks up for the seme at all times. If he had left the seme, I feel like that would have been it, and seme-san really would have broken down once and for all; his mental state would have taken a hard hit, and I’m not sure he’d be able to recover easily, if even at all. This story was wrapped up quite nicely. I can’t even begin to describe all the things I like about this. Well. I like everything about it. That last line in the ending (before the special chapters) was a nice, poetic touch: “to me, you are like ‘a thousand cranes’”. How brilliant of the author to tie in the title like that, so beautifully. Sigh. I could write a ten or so pages on the brilliance and magnificence of this story, but amma stop here (or maybe if I think of something else, I’ll add it in). Mangaka-san, good job. You are an amazing writer, keep up the good work~

Midnight Rain (CTK)

Complete | CTK,Chongtak | 2000 released

Omygosh omygosh omygoshhhhhhh! I’m only on the second chapter and I gotta say, damn man this sensei’s works are really intriguing. The characters are drawn so realistically, the proportions are well done (unlike those manga where everyone is so unnecessarily pretty that it messes wit ur aesthetic sense. I mean, not like there’s anything wrong with that, since it’s pleasing to the eyes. But still my guy.). The story is just so.... damn. “On doorstep” is the first of this person’s work I’ve read, and it’s the one that brought me here. I’ve gotta say bruh, this sensei really has a talent for writing ‘on the edge of your seat’ manga. Amazing. That was amazing. Wish there was more... damn.

Peach Love

Complete | Fujoking | 2015 released

NYOOOOOO YOU CANT JUST END IT LIKE THATTTTTT!!! Damn this was some very “shounen ai” shounen ai (intended double). I mean, I did like the action, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and at one point all I felt was doki doki.. twas bad for ma kokoro my guy. Anyways. I kinda wish I saw more of love and peach’s relationship, and the other side characters as well. This manhwa focused more on the action, and tho it was bl, there was more ‘b’ than ‘l’ lolol. I didn’t hate it tho. It didn’t take away from the story. It would just be a really nice addition to have more scenes on the romantic side, to develop their relationship further. The ending was also kind of rushed... that last character introduction was kind of abrupt. It wasn’t all bad tho. I still really like this piece.

Shounen No Kyoukai

Complete | akabeko | 2016 released

I don’t really wanna read this cuz it seems kinda painful and I don’t want that for my kokoro, but I just want to keep it in my list cuz according to the comments, this manga has components that I like and look for in (romance) stories: second couple (actually leave the relationship that’s not working out, the one the story started with, and move on, and not stay with/ go back to first lead because of some stupid and/or cliche reason), go against the regular; plot twist, fate doesn’t always lead to happiness, sometimes it’s better to follow your heart, character growth: hated them in the beginning, but they reflect on their actions and change for the better, a solid plot line, non-cliche: go against the “everything’s all rainbows and daisies” bullshit cliche that exists in wayyyy too many stories, etc. ....wow, just writing all this makes me want to read the manga. But. I don’t really wanna put myself through that. I’ll stick with the beautiful comment that led me to put this here in the first place

I can only say I like the art. The story was ok.

December Rain

Complete | Kimon | 2017 released

Omg.... what a painful ending..... Idk what to feel... What a rollercoaster of emotions that was. The author did well in portraying the corruption in the police, as well as the grey area of trying to do the ‘right’ thing. The fact that convicting an innocent person ruined one person’s life but saved the suspect (whom still wasn’t confirmed as guilty), the fact that turning that corruption around by freeing the innocent person and continuing the case only caused more grief and spiraled into something worse, ending up with only more deaths. This was truly a magnificent piece. I wish the two mc’s didn’t have to die, and had a chance to go somewhere and live free & comfortably, just the two of them. But I guess... that they’re.... together now... so to say... (╥_╥). I’m happy they at least had some happy times together, and that they were together in the end.. Anyways. This was a memorable piece, breaking away from the “everything has happy endings” Though. I can’t help but feel that damn cop kinda deserved it. He shouldn’t have died tho, but get tortur-... ahem. Good story.

Koko Wa Yasashii Niwa

Complete | enzou | 2016 released

I was gonna give this to 5 stars but retracted it back to 4 stars after the first sex scene. Right after the freckin discovery (that akira was not mamoru). It would have been better to make this manga a bit longer instead of jumping straight to sex. Like, u just escaped from the illusion that he isn’t a brother but actually a stranger that’s been living with u this whole time, and ur going to suddenly kiss and have sex with him? Without any reservations? This would have been a heck of a lot better if that part was better paced. That’s the thing that almost ruined what was otherwise a masterpiece of a story. The dark emotions and deep trauma in this were really well portrayed. Even I shed some tears. Their characters and backgrounds were so well developed, and the story was just so very well written man. When kaoru finally accepted his brother’s death (particularly the scene where he put out the incense and pictures) I was so moved I even shed some tears bro. Plus seeing akira’s past and his shit mother hurt my kokoro. This story is amazing and well written in s many ways, that’s why I was so disappointed by that sudden sex scene that came out of nowhere. It’s like it was put there just for the sake of making this a yaoi manga instead of a shounen ai tragedy slice of life. It wouldn’t have been so out of place if it happened a few chapters later, after kaoru had a little more time to accept reality and who was in front of him (akira). Anyways, I’ll still give it 4 stars since it was such an amazing story.
