I'm getting sick of the typical "I didn't know it was possible to like girls!!" trope in GL about teenagers, so Bloom Into You was literally such a breath of fresh air. It is indeed about two teenagers finding themselves, but it doesn't have to do with their sexual orientation. The writing is like actually fantastic, I think for GL this is one of the best coming of age that we have. And whenever the two get intimate it isn't sexualized, it's really all very well done.

Listen, I am indeed very sick of subtext for the most part. However! This is a very very good comic. I loved reading this, and of course it's very obvious that they love each other, I wish the author just made it explicit. This is a fucking great comic to just get started in reading GL as well, particularly because of the subtext. The art is pleasing, and every character is relatable. The comic explores anxiety and depression using ocean/sea motifs, it is just so nice to read.

This comic has got such a wide range of emotions. Like hilarious, grief, anxiety, love; this shit is dope as fuck. I love the way the characters are drawn, and the way this story pans out. It's beautiful in both writing and drawing. I recommend this comic to anybody.

SS Tier: I thought that since the main character is gay, and that I'm a lesbian, that I wouldn't be able to relate to this as much as GL, but I was so gladly mistaken. This manga made me cry because of how fucking real the MC's thoughts are. It hurt me so much to read about his experiences and relationships with both cis-het & LGBT people, because it was so indescribably accurate. Most of all, his own view of himself is what really hits the nail on the head. That isn't to say this comic is all about pain, because really it's about healing. If you are literally any kind of LGBT, you absolutely will relate to this manga and you'll feel seen, represented. While the MC is a gay teenage boy, there are also lesbian and trans characters that are equally important. I find that not only is the dialogue emotionally invoking by itself, but the way the characters queerness is represented through the art, and even the page format is absolutely beautiful. I don't even know if the mangaka is LGBT, but they did a fucking phenomenal job with this.
