the stars are for the empress, the lack of it is because of how annoying the emperor is as well as the slow and almost dilly dallying progress. it's 73 chaps yet almost nothing significant happens besides befriending the fave concubine, escaping death for the nth time w/o progress from the investigation, garnering the emperor's interest (emphasis on cringy blushing and delulus despite having done nothing so helpful for her) and still leaving a lot of gaps as to why she's being targeted or hated by emperor (with this pace, it's going to take 200 chaps to know at least 80% of what's going on)

The play of age roles is funny. A supposedly responsible adult who tries to make things work. And a youthful man who's pretty much all over the place until he gets a go signal. Plus, the way they just naturally clung to each other when theyve affirmed their feelings is so satisfying. Like yezzzz grow old together omg

second hand embarassment to being uncomfortable by the desperate sexual assault to feeling the feels of both sympathy and rooting for his blossoming love. and then getting excited by the turn of events and eventually just feeling amused and satisfied coz they're just compatible. i love their progress and goodness gracious, the smut + relationship is beautiful

73 Well, he's whipped alright (also, I really like how the author kept me rooting for her as a bird and seeing how much she really wanted to serve her people as a bird because even with power, she was only suffocating from being the 8th princess.
