Smells Like Green Spirit
Mishima is ostracized by his classmates for his long hair and for being seemingly “gay” or a “homo” as they label him. Mishima is indeed gay and cross-dresses at night. Kirino, another student, and the one instigating most of the bullying is actually closeted himself and says that watching Mishima frustrates him to no end. The two become close one summer in middle school and learn to lean on each other as they figure out their identities. However, their roads deviate after rumors spread of their homosexuality in the town- one remains true to themself, while the other decides to abide by “societal norm.” This manga is a true masterpiece as it deals heartbreakingly devastating truths of growing up and living in a society that to this day is not as accepting of non-heterosexual livelihoods. It is definitely slice of life, but dramatic with a flare of sorrow and tears. Told incredibly beautifully with artwork to match.

In the Cage
You’d think it’d be a typical omegaverse story since it discusses fated pairs, but the way the story flowed and came together was not only captivating, but beautiful. The drama peaked into a passionate love story filled with anxiety, desire, and obsession. It kept me wanting to read more and actually thirst for more chapters at the end.
