I think you really have to sit down and think about their decisions to fully understand them.
They're both not perfect, but I can see where they are coming from.
At first I was so pissed at the uke and after that at the seme, but I've come to appreciate the character understanding of the author.
They really were written realistically.
My only big issue with this is the pacing in the beginning and some of the world building...
