I love this manga. However, I do not agree with the motivation for everything Usagi does: a man. I, personally, don't think it's a good message to send girls or young women. Also, Usagi's nearly bipolar behavior gets quite repeated throughout the story. But, what most bothers me the most is Hanzou, his behavior towards Usagi and her acceptance of it all. He acts utterly rude, yells and comments meanly towards her. It is not constructive criticism, but plain and mean criticism. The fact that Usagi simply accepts his behavior, sees him as her motivation for everything she does, and runs back to him for the smallest reasons; everything mentioned is incredibly annoying to read. That she never stands up for herself nor believes in herself without needing to hear about her good traits from Hanzou are very bad messages to send to anyone reading this. Still, the manga has others great messages, and the comedy and art are completely gold. This should be my third time re-reading this manga, and I can even imagine a fourth time as well.

I seriously thought I would like the manga after I watched the anime a few years ago. I am surprised I don't. What I dislike the most is the main character's lack of knowledge despite her title as a fairy doctor and the daughter of a well-knowing man (and woman!) regarding fairies and myths. The author seems to have planned the story as such to teach readers certain topics. However, I must say that it is possible to do so with a character who actually fulfills the expectations of her profession. The one to solve most mysteries and clues is actually Edgar – why is it him and not her? SHE is the fairy doctor, not him. I'm puzzled – does the author have something against women? Seeing as Lydia's incompetent, Ermine has been killed off and there are no other female character thus far. Also, I find Lydia incredibly weak and very criticizing towards others, particularly Edgar and Raven, when she herself hardly is perfect nor anywhere near it. One point I don't understand either is why she easily shares her suspicions of a suspect with the suspect, e.g. Edgar. It has happened several times as far as I've gotten in the manga and it is frustrating. I'm afraid I must discontinue this manga as I cannot relate to nor even like the main character. The only one I truly like is Nico, whom the main character likes to dismiss despite his genius and genuine care for her; instead, she always chooses Edgar. Incredibly frustrating that she isn't stronger than that and actually uses her brain to think – before acting, at that.
