Chew Me up and Teach Me About Love

Ongoing | Pokerou | 2022 released

I'mma say it as it is; this is a hundred times better than Omegaverse could ever hope to be. (▰˘◡˘▰) It's amazing people drool so much over Omegaverse when you can clearly use the basics and create something that doesn't have rape at every second corner (as well as just being mental from the getgo and never adressing the well being of the Omega, mentally) and excuses behavior by 'thats how society works now'. The writing of this is SO much better than a felt 98% of Omegaverse out there. Actions are not excused by 'lol pheromones make horny, my bad, teehee. the law says its okay as does society (except omegas of course, because those are vermin that are just used despite them having great value)'. Instead, things are given rhyme and reason, each individual given inner and outer turmoil and monologue to clearly establish this is something serious and hard to go through but it can also be something sweet and purely smutty (but in a positive way). Something the VAST majority of Omegaverse simply glosses over shittily or entirely ignores because it's just mindless smut (which means; fucking is the focus, just like in porn). Let alone those that somehow pretend being scared and disgusted can be magically forgotten by the uke turning into an ahega-Ho in the next panel because his nips got twisted once (hentai bs logic). I would honestly replace all Omegaverse stories with this Theriomorphosis plotline. It would be an upgrade on all fronts. XD

Okay, so here's my review. Which means critique and such, so be warned. :P The base storyline is great, the characters interesting and the overall plot very nice. Definitely a decent read and maybe good material for people used to smut and that want to try out a mafia story. The art is decent but could use major improvements. Which is generally not a problem for artists of this level. So this is just something I'll note for the 'graphics hoes'. XD I know the seme in this can be a turn off for some people, but those who enjoy a dominant, (in a way) realistic mafia guy who slowly takes what he wants and is accepted in doing so, you should find not much problems liking him. BUT! There are flaws, I will not sugarcoat that. So here are the ones I found. The flaws that are most prominent are probably that the comic doesn't do well in depicting emotions, twists and turns in the story. Characters feel indifferent or too empty in many moments and sometimes the behavior doesn't make any sense and feels random. Or rather like the author had an idea for a single moment, but couldn't quite string it together with the current happenings, hence why some moments felt off or like a weird choice. Not sure if this is due to missing info not being portrayed (as comics based on novels often do) or if the writing itself is the problem. But it's something I'd suggest fixing for sure. Which is hard since this is a thing from start to finish. Another flaw I noticed was that the writing is definitely heavy in tone but the comic makes light of everything. Either this is a failed choice in making this comic a comedy piece that simply doesn't do a good job in making darker moments funny (aka, the rapist guy and basically all interactions with him) OR, which I am more inclined to believe, the author for some reason did not really do a good job incorporating dark themes, wanted dark themes but really couldn't handle making them make sense in the story. Which is also something we often encounter in webtoons. Many authors know drama and trauma sells, but have NO idea how to write it. :'D Due to the constant mis-hits on the comedy/glossing over moments, the story can feel off and weird. It's still a decent read but not the greatest if you are looking for cohesive writing that makes sense. Either way the baseplot is I think still worth a read due to being VERY interesting and intriguing for sure, but I have to say quite a few things need to be done better. To give it more of an 'oomph' factor when situations are arising. The art is part of why this doesn't work too well, but the writing as well. So if both get redone alittle, this could be an amazing work for sure. Tho as it is it still can work for less experienced readers or those not incapable of overlooking issues and still reading to the end. It depends on how strong your desire for things are and if you like the subject of the story I suppose. I would say it's a decent comic but would put it more into the amateur faction of works due to the big, constant flaws we see and the art not being the 'carrier' type. Still like it tho, despite the issues and I would probably suggest reading the novel for this one. If the flaws here were created by the comic creator cutting away bits and pieces, then the novel might be a more cohesive read with emotions being delivered better. But that is just my guess based on past experiences. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ Recommended either way, since I do very much enjoy the baseplot and it has a peaceful ending without another drama arc elongating things. Which is always refreshing to see nowadays. Give it a try, I'd say. (=・ω・=)

Absolutely Ruined Love

Complete | Suma | 2000 released

I'll make it short by saying; the writing is great, the art amazing, the amount of smut just right, the story perfect (especially the ending) despite it being such a rollercoaster and the characters are all likable in their own way. And I really adore the fact the author put in effort into depicting a mental illness in a realistic way yet making it work in this piece of fiction and giving it some additional factors that make it enhance the story and reading experience. Well done! DEFINITELY worth reading. It may not start off with either of the 'two semes' being likable, but they really grew on my as time went on and as their behavior got explained. Still waiting for an extra chapter tho in which our MC beats the shit outta seme's father tho. THAT would make this absolutely perfect. Or at least gimme a non-canon panel. That would be enough for me already. <3 Definitely a great read for those that appreciate good writing for mature audiences and don't just look for jackoff material with a silly, idealized story that borders fantasy. Also, a good read for people who appreciate realistic depictions of mental illness. Give it a try and let it simmer before you drop it in case the two love interests are not your thing. Even just the basic storyline is interesting and well written enough to read till the end.

Salvation Spirit

Ongoing | Lezhin | 2022 released

The plot is honestly riddled with nonsense in terms of logic and behavior. The seme/'love interest' is really dislikable from moment one and he just doesn't get better. The art might be decent but it also has a bit of inconsistency to it, hence why it cannot carry this for me. It's a shame since the base story they intoduced was REALLY interesting but it was ruined, as so many other comics, by the author going for focusing the smut and smut only at the expense of the plot itself. Shame, really. Good jack off material if you really have no standards or a few screws loose but not for normal people. Even without the text bubbles being read, the first smut of them together is NOT enjoyable. But I guess this depends on your taste, so whatever. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I'm out, you do you and give it a try. But if the story starts like this and gives no hints at anything giving a glimpse of change/betterment, I'm just out. maybe it get's better halfway through, but I will not stick around and bother to check.

SPOILERS, you have been warned. At first I just thought it was a stalker x stalker story to get fun scenarios and lotsa smut, but I'm surprised that the author gave both characters rhyme and reason, especially reason for the seme, and made sure they are the good kind of stalker (realizing, changing, etc.). It was quite well done to give the seme such a reason for his behavior. Which is why I wouldn't exactly label him a stalker in the usual sense. And the MC himself started out exhibiting stalker behavior but dropped it early on, that was a nice breeze of fresh air. XD I really like how it's written. Tho I think this would have benefitted from going more slow, less comedy-like and putting more effort into making it emotional in all ways present (falling in love, being happy, being obsessed, being scared, being sad and feeling guilty, etc.). The art itself is decent, maybe a little cookie cutter for some but still decent and pleasant to look at. Writing is great despite it being so rushed almost. And the overall story is lovely. Wholesome, contrary to what one might think. XD Definitely recommended! Especially as a nice casual read but still nothing silly in terms of character behavior per se.

The Seduction of the Deep Sleeper

Complete | Suzushiro | 2022 released

Here is the SPOILERLESS part, to sum it up for you and give you some basic ideas what awaits (spoiler parts after this little snippet): All in all this story is the perfect rollercoaster of sad/emotional, hot & steamy, funny and wholesome. A story about the bad in people, the good in people and the potential to change in a long or even short time based on individual circumstances, thoughts, emotions, etc.. On all fronts, this story did not disappoint. And I HIGHLY recommend you read it if you are looking for a more realistic and not dramatized romance story. Now for the spoiler-ish stuff and explainations as to why I like this story so much. The art, great. Barely ever saw anything in terms of anatomy that bothered me. The characters, great. Well written, have depth to them, are likable, pure green flags and they have rhyme and reason to their behavior. Love to see it! The over-all story tho? Basically perfect (so far, chapter 18 felt like the ending tbh but info says ongoing). It's the first time I have seen the estranged-because-angry parent trope be done SO incredibly well AND realistic. But at the same tme, short and precise without too much drama. It was an emotional moment to see them contact the MC and interact with him and his partner. The parents had depth to them, behaviors rooted in reason and character developement unseen in those 10 years apart. I love them so much. The author did VERY well to portray their emotions in just a few panels, even silent ones with just a few expressions. I'm impressed and adore this aspect of the story most of all. <3 Even the mother of the MC's partner, while definitely not the greatest person, she also had her character developement and has been given depth to change her from an aparent villain to someone you are rooting for, hoping she gets her fair share of good times with her son and does better in life. There are minor moments in which I think it could have been better to focus on some details more or adress them outright (the half-nude picture being send from the ex, specifically) but even without, the story still flowed well, the characters communicated and it felt like, for them, there might not have been a need to adress it because they understood each other and knew what was going on. Again, this is just a total gem in terms of writing. Highly recommended for people who are looking for a more realistic and not dramatized romance story. :)
