Scandalous Wedding

Ongoing | Kie | 2022 released

I'll be honest this is very basic and bland, I just can't get into it or enjoy it. :( The MC is so shallow and basically just a typical 2001 ditzy highschool girl in the body of a 24 year old man, it's just obnoxious. The emperor isn't in love, he's factually mentally ill and the plot treats it as if that's how obsessive love/love at first sight (since childhood) is. Which it is NOT, in case anyone isn't aware for some reason. The art is inconsistent and each face is just copy pasta with some different sauce added, anatomy is also wonky and no standard can be found for shapes and sizes. To boot, the overall detail is bland, tacky if there IS stuff like jewelery and it all just feels like stock image type of designing, just to slap clothes onto them because they can't be naked. The plot itself is very predictable and not as interesting as I first hoped. While it DOES work as a comedy, the art portrayal of said comedy is too little and too bland as well. It would need much more effort on that front to be an actual comedy and work as such a piece, tho it is a good casual page flipper if you are VERY bored. But even then I care little for the 'politics' and the romance is just not existent. The romance in this story is simply: there is romance because the author says so/demands it at the moment. The concept of marriage laws to allow their relationship IS something new and interesting, but everything else is just not good enough to make me read more. It's not quite well written and not well designed when it comes to portrayal of comedy, so it's below mid-levels of ranking for me. Maybe the novel is better but the comic I would honestly not ever recommend, it's just too low-mid levels on all fronts and nothing special or interesting compared to even dusty old BL stories with REALLY predictable and cliche plots (which is sad tbh). I think younger/less experienced people who don't know much about good writing can have a total blast with this, but to seasoned readers I think this is to bland, too basic and too boring. Wouldn't recommend but check it out to see if you don't mind it as much. If you don't mind something simple and basic to flip pages when bored, you might still like it nonetheless.

Misunderstanding

Ongoing | Gwangbu,Lee joo wong | 2019 released

This is the first time I have absolute ZERO interest in such a workplace dynamic story. And I usually inhale these by default. So that's a bummer. :( The seme was supposed to be a certain type of stoic guy but that somehow completely missed the mark in the appeal's department for me, the MC is generic and the workplace/job absolutely uninteresting or even unappealing. The job and happenings are simply not interesting enough for me to read dozens of pages or even chapters about regular work talk that has very little to do with setting up the characters for their dynamic or relationship. The first 7 chapters alone could have been heavily condensed and not lost any important detail for the actual story. The workplace abuse by that one cunt SO early on in the story is also not really winning any appeal points. That was really a turn off when reading tbh. :/ It's just not interesting on any front to me. Which is a first for work romance lots, I absolutely love those usually. But this one is just yapping too much and too long about the job which could have been condensed into MUCh shorter chapters. Not a fan of the drag and unappealing and very generic character personalities, but you give it a read and see if it might be your thing. It's not necessarily bad, depending on your standard for good writing or personal preferences, but I honestly think it's not good either. Mid, sure. But maybe that's just me. Give it a go and see for yourself.

Missing Love

Complete | In hyerin | 2019 released

Might be good, but the story did absolutely NOT interest me after reading the start.

A Pushover's Romance

Complete | Moscareto,모스카레토, Hyun Lee | 2000 released

The writing of this feels really off. I could forgive the very obnoxious back and forth from past to present and rinse and repeat, over and over and OVER (without getting to the point in a good manner), but even that becomes unforgivable since it drags on for so long. What bothers me most is the absolute misuse of that AND the miscommunication trope tho. As well as the character behavior: Both of them come across like acting to create a specific moment rather than a moment happening due to them behaving as the person they are. If that makes sense? It feels forced, shoe-horned and random at times even. As if the script didn't think through how to get to the next happening, but we had to get there, so we'll just force it within moments. Both the MC and the ML have personalities that seem bland, again, as if their behavior is rooted in creating the next happening rather than a flowing and cohesive personality. It's just strange. Tho the back and forth without getting anywhere and the annoying misunderstandings really does not help get a real feel for their actual perosnality. It's an interesting story at the core, but the execution is anything but good. And I am certainly not a fan of the main plot basically being miscommunication/misunderstandings galore in and of itself, everything around is basically just a garnish. Not really my thing due to these issues just overstaying their welcome WAY too much. But maybe you can enjoy it. The art is decent, tho I noticed the artist has an issue with not being able to portray some expressions. But i know people can forgive that easily. Check it out, give it a try. It's too annoying for my taste, but maybe you won't mind.

4 Week Lovers

Complete | Maroron | 2019 released

Even the official translation is lackluster in terms of grammar and feels off. The ML is either mental or just weirdly written; his reason for falling in love was literally him realizing the MC is a mega-idiot/ultra-doormat and then he just kissed him and apparently borderline stalked him. The MC is not a character, he's a parody-type tool at best; written in a way that furthers the story rather than behaving like a person with a set personality. The ML's weird, almost creepy obsessive and nonchalant behavior gives major sociopath vibes. Which also goes well with his weird reason for falling in love/immediately kissing the MC out of nowhere. The overall comic cuts out WAY too much, not as annoyingly badly as most webtoons, but it still makes the characters feel shallow, lacking detail and it takes away from the immersion. It's all in all very lacklusterly and shittily done. Not sure why people hype this, but it's not well done. Maybe the novel (if there is one) is better, but even then the ML might feel like a sociopathic freak. Not appealing. Not recommended. Unless you have mid to low writing standards I guess.

Miwaku Shikake - Amai Wana

Ongoing | Nekota Yonezou | 2013 released

Somewhat rough spoilers, because it's needed. Beware. The overall story setup and art are great, Nekota has a talent for making situations good with expressions, cute and serious alike, very talented in making sensual smut scenes that are often creative in terms of angles and whatnot. The comedy, adorable scenes and sexual moments are done incredibly well and with great detail. It's definitely a joy to look at and read. Especially since the dialogue is well written as well. Which makes reading just for the story/romance interesting enough and worth it in and of itself. But the one thing I think is the detriment of this story is the initial encounter/treatment before we get to the actual romance part of the story. It's incredibly bothersome how the MC is treated and his justifiable fear and hate is invalidated. To top it off, the typical nonsensical and straight up idiotic 'you have to be a doormat no matter what people do to you' ideaology of the asians being thrown into it all as well is making it really nasty tbh. And it's odd, because I find myself agreeing with the openly homophobic MC more than any of the other characters. The gay characters were the ones needing more reprimanding than the MC most of the time. Yet the story pretends only he is at fault for anything. Sure, he calls people faggot, but that is NOTHING compared to sexual harrassment and invalidating said harrassment! I mean, really?: Being randomly grabbed? Your fault for being scared. Being literally sexually harrassed? Better go apologize to the guy so he doesn't cause problems for the company! Just, no. He was in his full right to lash out. Especially with the company client incident. WTF was that?? Don't get me wrong, the story is still good! It's just this aspect of it that is really shittily done and you need to be able to shrug it off to enjoy it. Granted, it being somewhat unrealistic/comedy focused and having the typical comic 'they WILL screw, no matter what!' idea attached to it, make it end up as a somehwhat cute love story (if you ignore the afore mentioned), but the mistreatment and invalidation of problems really, REALLY irks me and leaves just a bad taste in my mouth since it is so badly done. Has back then when this came out and nowadays. People need to take serious problems, well, serious. Working them out with care is important. :'D If Nekota had put in effort of making a therapeutic arc or such in which the MC looses his fear gradually rather than just the typical smut trope of 'I feel good after being touched, therefore my problems are nullified', then it could have redeemed itself for the issues. But it wasn't so it definitely can be that some readers will not enjoy it. If you CAN shrug off issues in a plot, then you can still have a good time. As I said, the overall plot idea is great as a setup and the art amazing. Worth a read but depends on taste and ability to read fiction even if it's unpleasant. I suppose reading 'for the endgame' applies here rather well.

I know this is gonna turn around into a likely lovely, healing romance due to the ML being somewhat of a doormat and being a hopeless optimist, but it's personalities like these I cannot stand if viewed realistically rather than through a fictional-filter. The main character is definitely dislikable. Him lying and playing with people just cause can NOT be excused by trauma, it's explaination sure, but not an excuse. He has quite the bad personality and I for one would NOT bother looking for a relationship with someone who lies and plays like that just for the hell of it or to amuse himself, looking for another dose of self-made confirmation bias made real. It's just not a likable trait, trauma or not. Depending on what exactly is going on with the potential married ML, this could be another dislikable part for some readers. Tho my thought was somehow: His wife ran off ages ago and he STILL keeps thinking she'll come back to him. It would perfectly suit his doormat-ish character paired with optimism. XD It does seem well-written so far, so I'm looking forward to more. I hope the poor friend who played cool girl will get together with his curly-haired co-worker in a seperate comic. I'd love to see more of them.

Aka To Kuro (katsura Komachi)

Complete | katsura komachi | 2016 released

Not a fan of the writing of this one. The start of the story is entirely jumbled, feeling as if you read chapters inbetween chapters and after missing a whole bunch that give you literally ANY info. To the characters, the setting, etc.. It's just info after info getting thrown at you, as if you should already know who the person is or have read their back story. Which doesn't seem to be the case given there is only a sequel listed on MU. Just not a fan of this type of writing that just bombards you with info and you're left to just take it. The overall story is interesting but people who prefer a good flow of story without being left to wonder here and there might not exactly enjoy it. Give it a go, but be warned that there are issues with the flow of the story.

Ore To Joushi No Kakushikoto

Complete | kashima chiaki | 2016 released

Dropping this at the first chapter. There is nothing remotely likable or redeemable about the seme. The MC is a doormat, I could accept that. But the love interest is an absolute obnoxious piece of shit and I do NOT care to see how it's twisted into a love story. Can't stand even one panel with him tbh. He's not the typical cheeky superior who bullies out of love, he's a power abusing jackass with a shit personality. Nothing of interest to be seen with this character. I'm not wasting time with dislikable characters who don't even have 1% of 'he may be a good guy' vibes. Learned my lesson before. :)
