Hold Over You

Ongoing | Money , 머니 | 2024 released

Alright, surprisingly 6 chapters is enough to write a review for this on the basics. XD (A review means critique/negative things being mentioned, so you have been warned.) I'll refrain from mentioning the major lack of logic for the characters or on the author's side but I have to mention these things. While the artwork is impressive, the plot is horseshit. VERY interesting at it's core, but the way it's done is just really unappealing. And the art is quite frankly the only thing that can save it. If this had ugly or mid art, people would likely not be bothering with it. Not only do we start of with rape, basically (even if it WAS in a dream, they were both sentient and 'there'), we also have both characters entirely ignore the situation if we're honest. Emotions in general are being portrayed weirdly. Especially since the entire comic seems to not be able to decide whether it wants to be a light-hearted comedy piece or an actual mental issue portraying dark comic. It hits neither of those spots well and dangles in the middle. I really find the basic story interesting, as goddamn mentally defective as this karma from a past life is, but if this was at least done in a cohesive way (not dnagling in the middle of two genres) and maybe NOT start out with rape that's being ignored, it would be SO much better. At this point I am utterly uninterested, as pretty as the art is and as interesting as the base story is. I just hope someone will make a copy-cat story of this in a good way someday, because this is honestly not appealing unless you have some problems or can ignore aspects such as rape and issues like the dangling genre thing. Either is worrisome to me tbh. XD I will not ever recommend this. Not even the art can give this points, the issues with the writing are just too big.

Dragon's Bride

Ongoing | Guacamole | 2022 released

Finally I get a comic with a hermaphrodite and it's completely ruined by the most unpleasant, fuckwittiest smut plot to have ever fuckwitted about. Art cannot carry either. How unbelievable sad. My disappointment is immesurable. And my day is ruined.

Rainbow City

Ongoing | Chaepali | 2019 released

The MC/ML(? the soldier dude) has absolutely random writing in terms of behavior tbh. Nothing he does really makes sense except create a reaction, situation or dialogue to drive the plot. There is no sense to his actions, no rhyme or reason even if you do expect some sorta background story chapter to show up, none of this works even then. If this was based on a novel, it'd say the people making this comic skipped key scenes or misunderstood the writing and portrayed him a bit off, but this is not based on a novel, so technically there shouldn't be any rhyme or reason missing. I could see how someone might think THIS is how a tsundere is supposed to act, but even then, the random 'dick-hard - lets shove it into his face' moment was the pinacle of randomness. No explaination whatsoever either. Tho then again, the dude thinks knocking someone out is perfectly fine and NOT landing him in the guardhouse and all people around him do not remove him from the side of the uke either but instead push him there. The writing is heavily lacking and I can only wonder why i do not see a smut genre tag up there. Because that would PERFECTLY explain all of this. Because smut is essentially just porn in comic form and DOES more often than not lack right about any sense. XD I'm not sure if the story is good enough to keep going. Neither of them are interesting as characters because of the lack of proper introductions and the overall 'zombie virus' plotline isn't really made important enough to think THAT part of the story is worth sticking around for. So my guess is this will be carried heavily by the art, which I can very well see happening. It is great art so far. But I do not read for art only, especially not if the character we deal with is utterly random and obnoxiously written. I guess they are both good looking and bonking will eventually happen, but I'm not quite sure if that is really worth all this enduring I'd need to do. (And many comments aren't really making it look like it's getting better.) I didn't get hooked. I'm not an art-only person. The art is great but the characters utterly basic and bland. So I might flip through pages here and there to check but I honestly do not see any appeal besides the art here. Which is a shame since this setup HAD potential, it just wasn't used well. Maybe because the author is new to writing? It seems that way anyway. But the base idea was good, so I think there is high chance for improvement. You do you, give it a try, maybe the MC/soldier is your type of character and you'd read just for him, but all those looking for good writing will likely need to look elsewhere.

If You Hate Me So

Complete | Fargo | 2016 released

I'm at chapter 10 now and the story is neither pleasant nor interesting since it's just all over the fucking place. The 'love' feels random and shoehorned and so does the flashbacks that supposedly explain something. It feels literally like when I write a script and scribble notes at the side of a page saying "see if you can make this work as an excuse by providing a flashback and showing the bad guy actually had an interest in the MC since the very first meeting". That is literally EXACTLY how Jin's flashback moment and explaination of Seo felt. To a T. The rape-y-ness of the story doesn't help either. But maybe it works as a self-insert for some people. Doesn't hit the mark for me tho. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ Jin is somewhat interesting and I see comments saying the side couple is good, but I really REALLY cannot stand reading this any longer. It's just not interesting and badly written. It's a chore at this point. I might sometime check out the side couple, but I honestly feel like the writing isn't gonna magically turn better. Because that usually does simply not happen. ( ̄∇ ̄") Personally not at all recommending this one. Mainly due to the bad writing and randomness. But check it out, maybe you don't care much for these issues and can somehow enjoy it.

It's Time to Look for a New Family

Ongoing | | 2022 released

The plot of this is grand and promising, but the execution of the comic is lackluster at best. (I asume this is based on a novel, so keep that in mind.) There are very obviously things left out that are important to explain (like some names or creatures that randomly pop up and we are supposed to just say 'ah, ok' to that, all while barely needed flashbacks of character pasts are made a huge, detailed deal). Many times it feels like the comic gets side tracked and pays attention to the wrong things. Or just skips scenes that seem to be important to have in here. I assume the original work has them included, like the strange childrens gift from Winter, the reaction of the MC after reuniting was MUCH too special for the gift to be just left out/not revealed. Don't get me wrong, the base plot is incredibly interesting and has incredible potential, doing away with many cliches and mistakes, but it bothers me extremely that every other chapter the immersion is broken because another random skip, leaving something out or just a surprise random info snippet gets slapped into my face and nobody really cares to integrate it/introduce it into the story as if it was always a part of it. The way it's done here feels more like the author had a random moment and slapped something in there. Which I do NOT think the original script reads like. There are TOO many instances, even in just the 27 chapters I have read so far, that give the feeling of half the info you SHOULD have when reading the original script, are simply left out because of likely the classic reason: The comic adaptors didn't deem it important enough. Which is THE biggest issue with comic adaptations no doubt. It's not up to you as the adaptation team to deem what's necessary, especially if you definitely have no passion to convey the original plot as detailed as it likely is. If the writer included it, the comic should as well. Don't like the extra work for something you think is unimportant? DON'T MAKE A COMIC ABOUT THE STORY THEN. That's equally as unpleasant as anime/manga translators/localizers turning their job into fanfiction writing by making up what characters are saying. It's disappointing seeing this type of thing happen so often when it comes to novel-to-comic adaptations and making a potentially amazing story so annoying, boring or shitty to read. I really wish people would stop doing this. It's not givng the original story a good rep if you half-ass the comic adaptation.

It Starts with Isaac

Ongoing | Deodeomi,Gideed | 2022 released

I have a medium kink for this setup of a scenario, but this story honestly does a shit job with it. It's just unappealing tbh. I know what the author wanted to go for but it doesn't work for me. This is just the dumbest, most basic porn plot taken and acting as if it's deep, detailed and good. Which it isn't. XD It's not just the base scenario that is unappealing and causing an issue, it's either the translation or the writing itself. The unofficial was a shitfest that had ZERO to do with the actual dialogue but even the official translation doesn't make sense in the earliest chapters, going back and forth, contradiction what was previously said, etc.. The beginning of the story is lacklusterly written and completely half-assed which immediately makes me uninterested in giving this more of a chance. It's like a movie posting a shitty trailer online; ain't gonna go to the cinema to watch it. I know what the idea was, but the execution didn't work for me at all. This might be a good read for people who do not care about a good setup and intro to a story, just looking for jerk off material, but this doesn't do anything for me other than create annoyance. So I'm out. Sad to see that we finally get a military-type setting and the writing just ruins it. I'm starved for military setups, so this is quite the disappointment. :(

The Father and the Daughter

Ongoing | | 2022 released

I'll make it short, so you don't waste as much time as I did reading this: - the MC is heavily dislikable and quite frankly stupid from chapter 1 already (feels often very Mary Sue-ish tbh) - the writing is nothing special and does a bad job many times - the shittily used trope of the mentally ill father is, yet again, seemingly only used to make him the hate-able male figure - the pace is odd - the character logic idiotic more often than not (also from the very start) - some stuff is not quite making sense (not sure if that is due to this being based on a novel and comic adaptors just cutting stuff away as they please) I honestly couldn't care less about this and the MC alone is reason enough for me to heavily dislike this. She's got no appeal other than being drawn pretty. That's literally it. And that's just not a good basis for a story. Give it a try. If you have seen these types of plots before, you are likely not gonna see anything new. If you haven't and you don't mind the issues I found or have lower standards than me in some of these things, you might find this enjoyable to read. it depends on the person.

Paper Flower

Ongoing | Chanlanhan,Original: vang | 2019 released

Don't bother reading this. This is absolute wasted potential. The base story is really interesting, the boy being abused and wanting to leave by any means and the cruel prince that takes an interest in him because he's different. But the plot is entirely ruined by going for literally bloody rape, just 'cause. This could have been SO good if the author had went with a plot that had the ML be intrigued because the boy is so fearless and naive or just boldly speaks what he's asked. But no, we are going the shitty route of rape. Usually I can excuse the use of this shitty, low hanging fruit troop for bad writers. But this was just lazy and unnecessary. Going for an actual story instead of making this a typical smut fuckfest by any means and without care completely ruined it. It was nice for 3 chapters and then went to shit. So I'm not gonna waste my time with this even if the art is decent. I'd rather write my own version of this story than read this and hope for a sliver of better writing or let alone REASON for the ML. Just nope. This is only fap material for people with a questionable version of a rape kink and that ain't for me. So you do you, but I'm out.
