Sono Futari, Kaishaku Chigai desu!

Complete | MIYAMA Kaoruko | 2022 released

The beginning is really good but halfway through it feels like the writing lost some dedication. The ending also felt WAY too sudden, so I'm somewhat convinced the author just didn't 'feel this one' and decided to keep going until it had a somewhat conclusion-like moment to it. It feels unfinished but is a good read if you read it as what it is: a comedy piece, not a realistic story that pretends to have realistic behavior and situations. I love this author for their use of tropes, such as misunderstandings, and using them only as they should be used; momentarily instead of making it a whole fucking arc nobody cares for or has ever asked for. Feels like this author is just as annoyed by those situations dragging out as most of the readers. XD It's a nice simply read if you are looking for some absolutely comdeic anime type stuff with BL romance in it. But it is definitely unfinished or was discontinued basically and had just a quick makeshift ending created to slap the 'completed' label on it. Not a bad read tho. It's funny and cute. Would 100% work much better as an audio drama or better yet an anime tho.

Scandalous Wedding

Ongoing | Kie | 2022 released

I'll be honest this is very basic and bland, I just can't get into it or enjoy it. :( The MC is so shallow and basically just a typical 2001 ditzy highschool girl in the body of a 24 year old man, it's just obnoxious. The emperor isn't in love, he's factually mentally ill and the plot treats it as if that's how obsessive love/love at first sight (since childhood) is. Which it is NOT, in case anyone isn't aware for some reason. The art is inconsistent and each face is just copy pasta with some different sauce added, anatomy is also wonky and no standard can be found for shapes and sizes. To boot, the overall detail is bland, tacky if there IS stuff like jewelery and it all just feels like stock image type of designing, just to slap clothes onto them because they can't be naked. The plot itself is very predictable and not as interesting as I first hoped. While it DOES work as a comedy, the art portrayal of said comedy is too little and too bland as well. It would need much more effort on that front to be an actual comedy and work as such a piece, tho it is a good casual page flipper if you are VERY bored. But even then I care little for the 'politics' and the romance is just not existent. The romance in this story is simply: there is romance because the author says so/demands it at the moment. The concept of marriage laws to allow their relationship IS something new and interesting, but everything else is just not good enough to make me read more. It's not quite well written and not well designed when it comes to portrayal of comedy, so it's below mid-levels of ranking for me. Maybe the novel is better but the comic I would honestly not ever recommend, it's just too low-mid levels on all fronts and nothing special or interesting compared to even dusty old BL stories with REALLY predictable and cliche plots (which is sad tbh). I think younger/less experienced people who don't know much about good writing can have a total blast with this, but to seasoned readers I think this is to bland, too basic and too boring. Wouldn't recommend but check it out to see if you don't mind it as much. If you don't mind something simple and basic to flip pages when bored, you might still like it nonetheless.

It's Time to Look for a New Family

Ongoing | | 2022 released

The plot of this is grand and promising, but the execution of the comic is lackluster at best. (I asume this is based on a novel, so keep that in mind.) There are very obviously things left out that are important to explain (like some names or creatures that randomly pop up and we are supposed to just say 'ah, ok' to that, all while barely needed flashbacks of character pasts are made a huge, detailed deal). Many times it feels like the comic gets side tracked and pays attention to the wrong things. Or just skips scenes that seem to be important to have in here. I assume the original work has them included, like the strange childrens gift from Winter, the reaction of the MC after reuniting was MUCH too special for the gift to be just left out/not revealed. Don't get me wrong, the base plot is incredibly interesting and has incredible potential, doing away with many cliches and mistakes, but it bothers me extremely that every other chapter the immersion is broken because another random skip, leaving something out or just a surprise random info snippet gets slapped into my face and nobody really cares to integrate it/introduce it into the story as if it was always a part of it. The way it's done here feels more like the author had a random moment and slapped something in there. Which I do NOT think the original script reads like. There are TOO many instances, even in just the 27 chapters I have read so far, that give the feeling of half the info you SHOULD have when reading the original script, are simply left out because of likely the classic reason: The comic adaptors didn't deem it important enough. Which is THE biggest issue with comic adaptations no doubt. It's not up to you as the adaptation team to deem what's necessary, especially if you definitely have no passion to convey the original plot as detailed as it likely is. If the writer included it, the comic should as well. Don't like the extra work for something you think is unimportant? DON'T MAKE A COMIC ABOUT THE STORY THEN. That's equally as unpleasant as anime/manga translators/localizers turning their job into fanfiction writing by making up what characters are saying. It's disappointing seeing this type of thing happen so often when it comes to novel-to-comic adaptations and making a potentially amazing story so annoying, boring or shitty to read. I really wish people would stop doing this. It's not givng the original story a good rep if you half-ass the comic adaptation.

Showered With Love

I like animals and monsters and whatnot, but we gotta agree some species should at some point just be gotten rid of. For the greater good. These ones are part of that group for sure because of how nonsensical and actually creepy they behave. (WTF is up with them seeing a caretaker as their parent and trying to fuck them any chance there is??) I like me some tentacle porn as much as the next person, but if it calls you mommy/daddy I'll immediately loose my imaginary boner. So I'm noping outta this one. It's not funny enough nor is it hot n steamy with that fucking-your-mom bullshit the creature has going on. Gotta go cleanse my eyes and memory with acceptable filthy content now. This can go fuck itself. (●'◡'●)凸

It Starts with Isaac

Ongoing | Deodeomi,Gideed | 2022 released

I have a medium kink for this setup of a scenario, but this story honestly does a shit job with it. It's just unappealing tbh. I know what the author wanted to go for but it doesn't work for me. This is just the dumbest, most basic porn plot taken and acting as if it's deep, detailed and good. Which it isn't. XD It's not just the base scenario that is unappealing and causing an issue, it's either the translation or the writing itself. The unofficial was a shitfest that had ZERO to do with the actual dialogue but even the official translation doesn't make sense in the earliest chapters, going back and forth, contradiction what was previously said, etc.. The beginning of the story is lacklusterly written and completely half-assed which immediately makes me uninterested in giving this more of a chance. It's like a movie posting a shitty trailer online; ain't gonna go to the cinema to watch it. I know what the idea was, but the execution didn't work for me at all. This might be a good read for people who do not care about a good setup and intro to a story, just looking for jerk off material, but this doesn't do anything for me other than create annoyance. So I'm out. Sad to see that we finally get a military-type setting and the writing just ruins it. I'm starved for military setups, so this is quite the disappointment. :(

I'm a Worthless Stepmother, But I Love My Family Madly!

Ongoing | Tsuruko | 2022 released

I am 3 chapters in and this writing feels like the lovechild of ChatGPT and a 14 year old thinking they just wrote the rough draft to an epic love story (but it's really just cliche tacky stuff we have all seen before). Sometimes i think it's the translations that are off and make it weird but I can't tell. So I think I'll have to wait for official chapters. As is, this isn't written well. Almost random at times (both in dialogue and panels and what is happening in them). Not sure if the translations are so off and typical localizer shennanigans at play that it seems weird or if it IS this weirdly written. It really feels like a rough draft, almost random at times like sidenotes scribbled at the corner of the page just randomly got thrown in as well. No immersion comes up for me personally. Hopefully we can get official uploads, otherwise I don't think this is the type of comic I'd really care for, except for page flipping. I am 8 chapters in and this writing feels like the lovechild of ChatGPT and a 14 year old thinking they just wrote the rough draft to an epic love story (but it's really just cliche tacky stuff we have all seen before). And I cannot tell if it's 'localizer translations' at fault or if the story IS written like this. (╯▽╰ ) EDIT: Read further and it only gets more random and more rough draft-like, as if someone collected common cliche moments and stitched them together. No immersion or build up, just a collection of happenings we have seen elsewhere, just that here it makes little sense. really not an enjoyable read or page flipper tbh. So I'll not bother further. Sadly. I really love these stepmother stories, so this was quite the disappointment. ╥﹏╥

Misunderstanding

Ongoing | Gwangbu,Lee joo wong | 2019 released

This is the first time I have absolute ZERO interest in such a workplace dynamic story. And I usually inhale these by default. So that's a bummer. :( The seme was supposed to be a certain type of stoic guy but that somehow completely missed the mark in the appeal's department for me, the MC is generic and the workplace/job absolutely uninteresting or even unappealing. The job and happenings are simply not interesting enough for me to read dozens of pages or even chapters about regular work talk that has very little to do with setting up the characters for their dynamic or relationship. The first 7 chapters alone could have been heavily condensed and not lost any important detail for the actual story. The workplace abuse by that one cunt SO early on in the story is also not really winning any appeal points. That was really a turn off when reading tbh. :/ It's just not interesting on any front to me. Which is a first for work romance lots, I absolutely love those usually. But this one is just yapping too much and too long about the job which could have been condensed into MUCh shorter chapters. Not a fan of the drag and unappealing and very generic character personalities, but you give it a read and see if it might be your thing. It's not necessarily bad, depending on your standard for good writing or personal preferences, but I honestly think it's not good either. Mid, sure. But maybe that's just me. Give it a go and see for yourself.

summer season

Complete | 밍구르,절구,이로밀 | 2000 released

Note: The writing was good or at least decent (had a bit of a swing swong here and there) but chapter 17 really rushed for some reason, just before going back to regular mood. That was kinda weird tbh. Felt really lacklusterly. If the author attempted to write the MC as a tsundere, they honestly failed. I certainly like the character stereotypes, but this MC just has a shitty personality, flying off the handle for no good reason any chance he gets. It's been 26 chapters now and his behavior doesn't have a smidge cuteness to it at any moment. I suppose if you like characters just treating others like trash without feeling a shred of guilt or bad about it, this can be a great read. But given I had to be raised by a person like this, it's VERY unappealing to have this sorta person be the main character. And i doubt it'll change. I read 26 chapters only and while the base story is definitely interesting, the MC's personality is just a total deal breaker for me. Give it a try, maybe it's your thing.
