The Flower of Francia

Ongoing | Seong euntae,Kim room | 2019 released

Okay, this is...oh boy. Where to start. The artwork is not consistent at all and at times feels like other drawings were used as reference even (better anatomy, more dynamic poses than usual, etc.), tho I can forgive this easily since this is clearly an amateur work. The art is forgivable tho with it's inconsistency, it seems to get a bit more steady as things progress (I think anyway?). The story itself is interesting but...holy shit does the pacing ruin this comic. Not only are you just thrown into this without anything being explained entirely/in the basics, the plot is basically only made of one hectic happening after another and another and another...while the before given mysteries or unexplained parts are simply discarded or forgotten by the author. Neither the viewer nor the character knows what the actual fuck is going on but the story still progresses and seems to pretend that there is sufficent basis for that? It's just confusing. And not in a forgivable way. It's just a chore to read at this point (chapter 18 for me). If the pacing was WAY slower and let some things settle and explain at least the basics properly before moving onto the next drama, this would be something I'd keep reading. Not for the female lead tho (she's not as interesting as she could be, even with her tragic back story she seems blant and boring many times), the Emperor and other minor side characters are interesting...but not interesting enough to endure the confusion. I think this might be a good learning experience if the author listens to critique, but it doesn't get a pasing grade from me. Hence I'mma drop it. I might check back when it's finished, just to see what the Emperor is up to, but it's not worth a serious read for me.

The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass

Okay, review time since I've caught up with the current chapters (44). It's nice that this story went another route than the usual idea of the villainess avoiding any bad moments and trying to be nice and friendly all the time, but...this particular route seems a bit wonky here and there. Like, there are happenings just for the sake of them happening, just to progress to a specific part or simply just to drive an agenda some more. That's not always bad and it's not done badly per se but there's a problem with the flow of things. And logic too, there is quite a lot of flaws in the logic of these people (main character especially) and at times they are super witty and fast on the uptake and other times they are just so utterly dense and slow it's making me think I'm looking at a different character altogether... What bothers me a lot is that the main character comes across as both relatable as well as someone you want to cheer for and in another moment...you kinda wanna see her fail and things go haywire. I don't think that was the intention, especially since it happens so often and almost randomly, but I find this quite badly written. Especially for a main character. She shouldn't be dislikable unless we have a beginning arc of her not being a good person and then slowly growing to be one, but the author didn't seem to aim for that at all. So I really don't quite like her. And there are times I find it really hard to root for her tbh. In all honesty, I'll probably only keep reading this because the character of the crown prince is incredibly interesting and the whole nobles at each other's throat thing is right up my alley. But nothing else. The pacing is either too slow or a tad bit rushed (some things are adressed and then left unattended for ages until they get a lukewarm continuation/solution), the base plot has lost it's charm due to the execution the author went with and all in all it's just not as pleasant to read as it could be. If there was any sort of hint for at least a love story to actually start or her being a decent person and not trying to use people but instead help them (especially Oscar, who obviously needs help and she knows it), maybe I'd be more interested and keep reading. But as it is I have no real desire to see this continue. The artwork is nice, one of the most decent ones among these reincarnated/revived plots. Tho there are a few annoying 3d assets being used and backgrounds could be much better in terms of showing them off and drawing them in detail. Either way, it's an okay read if you can ignore or forgive the flaws you find here and there. A good time waster for sure, tho nothing I personally would recommend. To each their own. So enjoy if you find yourself liking it more than I do. :)

I'll Do That Marriage

While the base plot (as often is the case with these stories) is indeed interesting to a certain degree, this one is just not well written at all. I can forgive the parts in which it seems like stuff is repeating, forwhatever reason, and even those where it seems like you missed a scene or it simply comes across a bit messy. But the lack of logic and rushed 'progress points' are just ruining this. The emperor, duke and the headmaid are the ones that have the biggest logic flaws but there are also times in which the behavior or reasoning of the main character and emperor just seem entirely random and come across like they are only behaving that way to move the plot along. Which is horrible writing, something I only expect of an amateur that really didn't bother checking if their story even made sense. The art is alright and the base plotline is nice but this nilly-willy writing just makes this unreadable for me. It could be a nice read for people that can ignore these obvious flaws, likely young girls that don't think twice if the love fantasy they read even makes sense (Shoujo-Land ahoy!). But for people that like good writing this is something to avoid. It may not be the worst in terms of writing, but it's certainly very bothersome if you prefer things to make sense and be realistic in terms of reasoning. Enjoy to whoever can, to each their own.

REVIEW TIME! The storyline is very interesting, but instead of reading a fleshed out comic this feels more like a somewhat worked out image/story board rather than a completed work. Or maybe like someone is telling you events from a story they read and they just throw the most important stuff at you. Kinda like that. It's much too lacking, cuts from scenes to another too unnoticably and there are no details worked in to give it an actual flow or pace. This is just one basic panel for a scene after another simply to move along, it doesn't feel like the creator put effort into fleshing this out at all. Maybe it's their first work, but they shpuld really start refining the chapters to not have this story entirely go to waste. The art is passable, so is the characters even tho they still feel very bland, but the translation is ruining this for me by now. So, given that there are so many issues I'll likely not get back to this. Maybe to check once in a blue moon to see if anything changed for the better, but as it is now I can really not recommend it. If theres anyone that doesn't care about detailed writing and well-done pace/flow as well as stroke-inducing english, this is probably a good story for you. As for anyone else: Don't bother, I'd say. It's not interesting enough to put up with the issues.

The story did seem really interesting even if it was just yet another re-chewed version of the same old base plot, but considering how bad the writing is I'll pass on this one. I don't think it's a translation error that makes this seem so weird, but 2 chapters in and it still feels like a rough recap or confusing promo story in which major bits and pieces are missing. It could be that the translation team missed to submit these 2 chapters as a promo chapter (which would explain all issues, sorta) but since it doesn't seem to be the case I'm quite disappointed. Tho if anyone knows for sure that the first 2 chapters are just a mistitled promo, DO tell and I'll give this another go some other time. Anyways. Since I'm not into that kinda choppy flow of stories I'll pass on this one. Sadly nothing I can recommend if this is how the writing level will continue.

Incidentally Living Together

Complete | Shin Yuri | 2000 released

I was interested at first but the flaws in writing bother me greatly... There is so many issues in just the first 4 chapters, it feels like the writer doesn't know how life works. Or how embarassment works either... I mean, the fact that his 'love' for the neighbor can be overwritten so easily makes me dislike the MC tbh. He's the most shallow character I've seen in ages. And in this scenario he doesn't even have a reason to fall for him/have a wet dream about him other than seeing him half naked so...that's saying quite a bit about him in many ways. Mainly that he's just horny for his neighbor rather than love him. Tho there are plenty of other issues that make this all just weird to read. For example him jacking off to his suppposed crush's underwear, then being caught by the other guy and STILL agreeing to living together (that would never have happened with a person that reacted in such a world-ending way as the MC did, yet the author thought that would be a natural thing to happen...which is simply weird). I'm also confused as to why the MC was supposedly 'forced to live together'? He literally owns the apartment, right? And he was able to manage living there alone so far, so either the author didn't feel the need to include key information or this was just a quick dramatic idea to throw into dialogue to 'spice things up'. Which drama stories often enough do, sadly. The fact that he later thinks the guy just up and left without telling him, even tho they are living together and hence would be forced to communicate about this matter, is also unnatural in that scenario. Anyway, I'll give this a hard pass because I'm heavily bothered by the MCs personality and the general flawed logic. I honestly don't care if it 'gets better later on' either, because I'm not gonna bother hoping for the MC to be less annoying anytime soon. Especially with so many chapters this has. Give it a try, I suppose. But if you have any interest in a story making sense or being realistic in certain ways...you should probably skip this one.

Assorted Wildness

Complete | Gyeja,Jipang | 2019 released

REVIEW TIME... This is the first time I've ever really, really disliked this genre of uke (genre of uke = a person like Akihito from Viewfinder). He's not just a fucking idiot, he also lacks any type of logic and does weird and seemingly random bs all the damn time. The seme isn't much better with his dick-controlled thinking from the very first encounter and seemingly changing personality whenever needed/most suitable to get a situation going (it didn't feel like a person with 2 sides to him, but rather 2 seperate personalities in the same body, if that makes sense?). I had hopes for this in the beginning, but the writing and character personalities (if you wanna call them that, as little as there is of it..) is really just bad. It's a good read if you aim for the sex scenes, but that's about it. Tho half the time there's issues with the anatomy of the characters as well (which is weird since the naked scenes seem to be mostly accurate). There is also no hint of this ever turning into any sort of healthy/good relationship of any sort. It feels very choppy and lackluster. In some ways it drags endlessly, in others it rushes from one happening to another. It's just not enjoyable to read. Really not anything of quality, so I'm out. Have fun to whoever enjoys it tho.
