Elektel Delusion
How to properly express my feelings about this manga... hmmm. I love the manga itself. The art is fantastic, the story is written very smoothly and the characters are so endearing that even what I will say shortly doesn't stop me from loving them. However, I've never been a fan of comedy at the expense of someone else's misery. To me, it's like setting someone up to be bullied by others so you can laugh at them with a clear conscience. That is the premise of this manga, comedy at the cost of another's misery. Granted, these are fictional characters, but there are real people just like them who face these troubles daily, simply because they are not hetero. Meddling friends, suitors who consider themselves "entitled" to another person simply because they believe it to be so, parents, siblings and friends who disregard the feelings of a person because they don't fit into a role expected of them, individuals who cowardly deny their own selves and feelings for the sake of appearances and fitting in, discrimination and prejudice from everyone, all this and more are facts of life for someone who is homosexual. I'm sorry, but I can't see the humour in it. So, as much as I love this manga for its genuinely awesome quality, I also hate it for taking humorous jabs at topics that are so important. I would still highly recommend this manga to others because I recognize that my opinions are based on my personal experiences in these matters. If you have never faced these obstacles yourself, I can see where the situations depicted could be funny. That just isn't the case for me.
