Incidentally Living Together
16th yaoi. I liked the art style and thought it was a fluffy and cute cohabitation yaoi, BUT I was faced since the first panel with pure DARKNESS. I was certainly really surprised but I have had it in my want to read list for so long that I had to give it a try even if I wasn't really feeling a dark theme at the moment. I am pretty confused on how I'll rate it but I will go with a 4 star. I loved the art style and the character design was amazing. When the uke cut his hair he moved from cute to hot but his personality was so annoying and he was way too selfish until the very end. The seme could of course destroy me with his abs and he is one of the most pure-hearted semes ever, I only got slightly mad when I found out (more like predicted) he was not that sincere at the beginning. Their relationship was based on lust at first to fill their voids but It progressed into actual love, FINALLY another yaoi with actual love. The theme hit really close home and the concept was really well carried out and I would totally assume this was an actual experience of the author even after reading the epilogue since it was so close to reality. The only negative point is that it got pretty draggy towards the middle/end and could have replaced that with more of their future struggles and confrontation with antagonists like the family and classmates. It just makes the ending more satisfying and not make you question the characters feelings. Would recommend if looking for a dark themed yaoi that includes realistic mental health issues with a side of cohabitation lust turned love.
Back to School
21th yaoi. So I have to say again that I hesitated because of the art style. I still gave it a shot and I don't regret it at all. The art style was really appealing and made all the characters look attractive and mature. Even though there was no smut, I still liked the story. The main character is my favorite. He is so cute and adorable and even though he made bad decisions, he still managed to get over his past and continue living on. He was such a bad boy that I couldn't believe he was an uke. I mean totally my type. The other two characters were not my cup of tea. Kyujin was boring and annoying. Jihyun was just abusive and obsessive, everyone seemed to love him so much since he is such a "bad boy" but no. He deserves to go to jail for what he did and he still has the audacity to always say that it's my boy Chiwoo's fault and that he did everything because he loves him. I was so happy when he got rejected and didn't feel like he got what he really deserved. I tried my best to understand and like him but no. Especially after reading the creator's note and realizing that he not only assaulted Chiwoo but he raped him. I am so mad. I was still waiting for like a redemption even though I knew that anything he would have done would not have been enough. Would recommend if looking for a story about the past haunting a character.
Back to School: All Grown Up
So, this was the redemption. I was okay with no smut in the main story but I guess the author wanted to show us some of the goodness that we would have missed out on. Truly a good author, especially considering this is their first work. I loved the ending of course. It was also good to see Jihyun suffer some more but on the bright side at least he will be able to move on with his life just like the other two. These side stories are more for the ones that can't be satisfied with merely panels of their gorgeous faces and abs and actually want to see how such a bad boy would be a perfect uke. I mean this totally hit the spot. Even the parallel universe Jihyun and Chiwoo destroyed me. I guess most people were excited for this spinoff more.
