Loneliness and renewed hope brought about by new meetings are common themes in the mangaka's writing. Heck, she even has some good hits on warped familial relationships and bad parenting/ neglect, but this? This was more of a miss for me. The characters were great but the transition from Mamoru to Akira was too rushed. There should have been a couple months where he never avknowledged him with either name, just floundering about, trying to make it make sense. This feels abrupt. Still good, but abrupt. 4.3
