Kiyonosuke becomes the bride of a seemingly carefree and impulsive merman and gains immortality unwillingly. It would seem that he was only mistakenly in the wrong place at the wrong time (or the right place at the right time?). But nothing is ever that simple, is it?
This is so, so painful to read. It is bittersweet in the extreme. From how he just made a date 60 years into the future and left poor Kyo on the banks, to how the merman must have felt, knowing he was the last of his kind, knowing he would have thrust the heavy burden of immortality onto the unwilling Kyo, yet still being unable to let him die in that fire... This is truly a love for the ages. Now that they know each other's feelings, I hope the bitterness fades away into eternity, leaving only the saccharine. I loved how selfless Kyo is. And just. The spell never broke because Kyo never betrayed him. Like, can you fucking imagine? 60 years without a sign and the man never gave up. Sign me up for a love like that, please!
