First Come, First Served
Koki is a bottom with abandonment issues who only sleeps with virgins. His one night stand with Masumi, a gentle guy who just got dumped, was supposed to be a one time thing. But Masumi turns out to be eaxctly what Koki needed. I actually really enjoyed Koki's personality he more honest, and less shallow than other characters that fit this mould, I also really loved how Masumi was helpless and held his ground and pushed for his needs. 5 5: Random oneshot about childhood friends who are secretly in love with each other and a brief misunderstanding that happens before they get together. Overall, it was okay. No troubling elements, but also boring and forgettable. The overprotective brother was a nice touch, though. 4.2 Overall: 4.6
Keisenjou no Cantata
1, 3: Story about Youji, an amateur manga artist, and how he falls for Sawa, his sepai who always wears gloves for an unknown reason. The story was incredible. And incredibly painful. Yaoi rarely deal with issues like self harm and trauma well, but this was amazing. I wish them all the happiness. 5 2, 4: Suo and Minato meet online as bl fanfic writer and fan artist. Once they meet irl, their bond strengthens and Suo eventually realizes he is in love with Minato. Only, Minato has been in love with him for just as long, if not longer. So much pain in their desperation, but so heartwarming and sweet, too. Suo will never ever know how much he saved Minato. Lord. This child needed that break. 4.7 The entire collection has such depth and evokes the strangest sense of nostalgia. Bittersweet but heavy on the sweet, and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Pearl Boy
You know what. I thought I was ready, but I was wrong. I can't read this without an ending. It's just too damn awful. Ch 28
Koi Kirari, Kage Sururi
Claiming that she feels neglected, Nogami's wife divorces him, leaving him insecure and housing some major abandonment issues. When he picks up Kume, a fresh university student who has lost much as a result of his coming out, he had no idea how much he himself was about to be saved, in turn. I thought this would be cliché and annoying, and boy, am I happy to be wrong. I found Kume to be an extremely lovable and brave kid. So glad his dad isn't an arsehole. Also, I don't think Nogami is purposefully neglectful at all, really. He's just, absentminded, if anything? Maybe he compartmentalizes sometimes, but his wife should have talked it out. Well, all the better for Kume. And Nogami, too. He is such a kind and gentle person, and he certainly deserves to be with someone who can recognize that. 5
