The prince is actually a sadistic murderer who likes to torture innocent people. So far Damien has manipulated certain events to work in his favor to achieving his goal. He runs a gossip paper in secret to spread rumors about nobility to tarnish the royal family's reputation. The late queens lady in waiting is the marquis. He manipulates her by leading her on to gain information for his paper. After the marriage, Chole moves to Thisse, she hosts a gathering of nobles as the duchess. This includes the Marquis. The marquis loathes Chloe for stealing her man and even tries to kill Chloe. The royal family arranges for the marquis to be murdered during her stay at Thisse to try to tarnish Damiens reputation. He flips the narrative very quickly by framing Chloe for the murder but plants evidence that proves its the royal family. Chloe is imprisoned for 15 days while authorities investigate. Damien prives her innocence at the trial and she is freed. He uses this in his paper to show how the royal family tried to frame his innocent wife and further spread mistrust in the royals. This is the worst thing he does. Chloe does get revenge on him for it in a very intense dramatic way. He does show remorse for what he does to her. I think it is important to note a couple things. He does truly love Chloe, he just didn't expect he would ever fall in love while pursuing power. The biggest reason he decided to flip the narrative this way was in a moment of jealousy. He came up with the plan after Chloe ran to Grey (Giles in the comic) following a misunderstanding/argument to seek comfort. I think this was Damiens' misguided way of punishing her. He has also spent his whole life trying to take the throne that he didn't stop to think about his actions. He eventually tries to give up everything he's been seeking his whole life, and is even ready to die, to win Chloe back.

Breezed through til Ch.5 SPOILERS an OI where the randy "Duke" did a murder/suicide on the FL in their real life. Author trying to spin it as "she was gonna die painfully of cancer anyway so he saved her the pain." But she literally was feeling okay when he did it, it was a surprise, and she was shocked and struggled against it. They both transmigrated. ... can't get behind it, don't care how in love with her he was... She's supposed to end up with two men in a poly ending. One is the innocent "angel agent" that is terrible at acting. His agent/taskforce is tasked with keeping storylines/worlds clean of wonky reincarnation/isekai errors? Anyway, he was supposed to play the role of the husband who doesn't say much and assist her in her job. But the murder/suicide jerk sold his memories to a demon equivalent to get the role of the "husband with few lines". In an attempt to have access to fucking her I think. It doesn't help that I believe they were platonic friends in their real lives. He did all this so he could have a chance at having his unrequited love fulfilled? I can only guess at his grand explanation, I don't respect him enough to keep reading and find out. I was sorely tempted by blushing angel and funny-pervert demon equiv (he's so over the top, I like a "tame the bad boy storyline" Since everyone has new appearances she doesn't realize murder friend is the "duke of few lines". All she knows is that stuff isn't as she was instructed about when she gets the mission and Angel Agent is just as confused. She doesn't get a hint that 'the husband' is actually her murder friend until she meets the demon, who seems to have all of her friend's memories but none of the context. I don't know where they were going to go with it after that. Would she have vengeance on murder friend even though now he is the equivalent an amnesiac isekai man who actually believes himself to be the duke because of the story? He's portrayed as adoring her and doing all the proper tasks of a Duke, and his people support him and all that. He just happens to have an isekai soul at this point. I wonder if that is supposed to 'make us feel better'? But I just felt like if I kept reading, it wouldn't be a revenge story. And the murder friend would "win" even if he didn't remember why he was winning anymore. No winning for him. If the murder friend is truly part of the romantic end game, and I'm certain he is from spoilers, I'm out. Sorry if some of this is repetitive, I was copying over this conversation from previous comments I'd made so I covered the main points.
