WOW. Yui is very tactless, and makes unwise decisions, while Toshiki is clever and manipulative. Every move he makes is carefull thought through. Apart, these two are disasters: two lone boats on a stormy ocean, trying their best not to sink. But together, they shift and change. Toshiki, who prides himself on being so clever, grows dependent upon Yui, and love makes his behaviour rash. He’s possessive, and has mood swings. From over the moon happy, to miserable in minutes. He can’t live without Yui, so he locks him up, but at the same time he wants Yui to be happy, and in order for Yui to be happy, he needs to be free. He’s a whirling paradox of emotions, but Yui isn’t faring any better. “Can’t I be the last one?” He asks, referring to Toshiki’s nasty little habit. He enjoys Toshiki’s clinginess, and wants him to depend on him more, because he messed up in the past, and he can see the exact story playing out again in front of him with Toshiki, so he’s determined to get things right this time around. But, rather than getting Toshiki to open up, it has the opposite effect. It leads Toshiki to believe Yui is too hung up on the past to love him properly, and the misunderstanding causes great grief for the both of them. The two men are painfully flawed in the way they love each other. And that’s what makes it so real. They love one another, but can’t seem to stop hurting the other. It’s a painful cycle, but neither Yui nor Toshiki can seem to let go. In the end, it’s revealed that they need to sort themselves out, and become people the other can truly depend on.
