For when even the characters are unsure of gender, it makes our own chances slim. One mustn't forget that when exploring the realms of anime and manga, thou can never be sure of gender identity or age. I conducted a thorough vibe check myself and none of the vibes came out gay. The vibes are only slightly masked gay but are defiantly arrow-straight with not even a narrow rainbow curve. HOWEVER, if you read straight romance manga as well, this story is still pretty cute even without the rainbow hues.
