This has a lot of the features I think make a good foundational romance... a positive heroine who refuses to give up on her man, strong character growth, no BBV (bed before vows) so no unplanned pregnancies, an OW cameo too short to become oppresive, no manipulation, no toxic relatives, no misunderstandings, no unbelievably tragic back stories (well, the hero has some issues, but they are well woven into his character and not unblievable), a good flow, belivable relationship development (a little rushed maybe, but page limits often require that), and all wrapped up in good art. Been awhile since I could give a story 5 stars.

Feels rather rushed and superficial, but the story flows. The FL never really seems more than a victim, however. The story only has a happy ending because the ML undergoes a typical, miraculous, Harlequin ‘arrogant, non-communicative, overbearing to (overbearing) loving husband’ transformation. At least the FL isn’t always trying to hide behind ‘I’m fine.’ She’s open when asked, and so misunderstandings didn’t last long. That much was refreshing to see.
