The Larkswood Legacy

Complete | Nicola cornick,Chisato nakamura | 2019 released

This was a nice one with just a bit of misunderstanding, intrique, bad family, and suspicion but it never goes over the top (well, except for the bad family, but its not overused). All the above, generally excessive elements, are intertwined in appropriate amounts to weave together an enjoyable story, and what put the icing on this cake for me was there was no BBV (Bed Before Vows).

A really sweet tale about a troubled 'knight in shining armor' forced by circumstances to come to the rescue of two charming young ladies stranded in the middle of nowhere by a greedy relative. Despite a few heavy elements, this story is as sweet and fluffy as whipped cream (without BBV [Bed Before Vows]) and is satisfyingly concluded with the promise of everyone getting what they deserve.

The Blackstone Heir

3.5 stars- I liked it better than I wanted to considering it is a BBV baby based story. Part of that was the positive, bubbly FL. Part of it was the ML who started out callous, but was introspective and wise enough to recognized his stupidity and never resorted to threats or cocerion to claim his baby, and part of it was the exceptional art.

A Place of Storms

Complete | Sara craven,Miyuki yamaguchi | 2019 released

Overall a decent read (literally and figuratively), but a few disconcerting issues. It bothered me that someone could so diliberately play mind games with a 5 year old, and it bothers me that anyone would think the top of a tower, completely isolated from the rest of the castle, would be an appropriate location for a 5 year olds bedroom! It might make a decent fort/play house, but a bed room??? What was she thinking??? Other than those two issues, signifigant as they were, it wasn't a bad, and it was nice to run across a story that didn't rely on horizontal action to build the relationship. You see, even though they do 'sleep together', its the literal definition. They -sleep-; there's no hanky panky. If they keep it up, that bodes well for their marriage. RL shows couples who wait til after they are married statisticly have longer, happier marriages. Here's to hoping, because we never get to see the wedding, just the proposal. I enjoyed the art too.

4 star story- 2 star upload (8/21 UPDATE: Reloaded as 2 books, pages in order, under its English title)- So after nearly 10 years, it is finally completely uploaded, but the 2nd chap is plagued by the same problem as the 1st, that is a few pages out of sequence - you can still get the gist of what you need to know from those sections, but it loses the flow and feels all jumbled. By the end, you've got enough to enjoy the finale, but a shame it had to happen in both chapters. That said, it was a decent story.

An exceptional story adapted by one of my favorite artists. It's one of the few that will end up on my BEST list in spite of the BBV [Bed Before Vows].

One Night to Risk It All (Holt Sisters 2/2)

Complete | Maisey yates,Masami shinohara,Harlequin | 2019 released

I don't usually give BBV (Bed Before Vows) stories 4 stars, but for all the over-the-top wretched backstories of being unloved children harboring the scars of neglect, abuse or both, there was a strong message here. That message being that forgiveness, at its heart, isn't always something you do for the other person, it may very well be something you do for yourself! It's said that harboring hatred and unforgivness is like you drinking rat poison and expecting the rat to die. The fact is, when you let go of your hatred and forgive, whether the the other person/people deserves it or not, whether they accept it or not, you have released YOURSELF to experience happiness with them, or even in SPITE of them. I really find that a powerful and REAL message that can be learned from this fictional BBV story.

So, he starts out as a prejudiced jerk, then comes the marriage of convivence for the baby's sake, they get closer, and then they both act like jerks and split. But thankfully the FL has the intelligence and humility to think things over, recognize her mistakes and come back, because the ML's pride was overruling his common sense. The art was great and they seem like a well grounded couple once they get straightened out. Sadly, the heroine initially engaged in some 'off-screen' BBV (Bed Before Vows) with the hero's brother so this is a BBV pregnancy story at it root.

A good lighthearted story that shows you don't need BBV (Bed Before Vows) to spin a good tale or build a good relationship. In fact, RL statistics would indicate their marriage has a better chance because they waited!

It’s a BBV (Bed Before Vows) coercion story. He felt betrayed, but never considered she might be doing it for different motives. I could sympathize with the FL, feeling trapped between a rock and a hard place with sheer walls to boot, but despite this, she did her very best to maintain what pride and dignity she could. Although we know she is as fragile as egg shells, she never lets HIM see it. And I liked the ML as well... for the most part. He sets up the Mistress contract with a pre-conceived image, and while he fights to keep it to protect himself, he’s not wearing blinders. He see’s stuff. He starts to question. He doesn’t start asking questions as soon as I thought he ought, but when he did and learned the truth, he was truly remorseful and didn’t limit himself to saying, “I’m sorry.” He set out to make things right. I can respect that. I’m not a big fan of BBV stories, but for some reason this pulled on a few emotional cords, so it gained a star.
