A Convenient Wife
(3.5) I would like to have given it 4 stars because its one of my favorite artists and it was a good story, but I think it would have been better without the BBV (Bed Before Vows). It wasn't intrinsic to the plot, and IMO, cheapens the romance.
The Baby Bond
The Greek's Secret Son
Nothing exceptional here, and not one if my favorite plot devices - one of the standard BBV (Bed Before Vows) baby plots - but i can acknowledge that it flows nicely and the art is good.
Mahou ga Toketa Asa ni
5 chaps (2*)- A rather typical BBV (Bed Before Vows) goes wrong with a pregnancy and a manipulating family trying to arrange a marriage with another woman. Sadly, the ML is just as manipulative as the family, and she's his pawn. Not sure i could forgive someone who used me without my consent like that. And explain to me again why she couldn't work at the university or wherever until her father's work was published? Did she not earn her own PhD by her own efforts? Why was her employment contingent on her father's work? That throughly confused me.
MILLION-DOLLAR AMNESIA SCANDAL
SUMMARY: Shortly after signing a contract to exchange her record label for a hotel, April, a famous Jazz singer, is in a violent car crash. The driver, Jessie, with whom she had made the exchange, was killed. The other casualty was her memory, and now Jessie's brother, Seth, has arrived to contest the exchange. Not knowing why she traded away her label, she stubbornly refuses to trade it back until her memory returns, so asks Seth to take her to the hotel in hopes it might jog her memory. That is something Jessie's handsome brother is quite willing to do.
Some Sort of Spell
Loved the art. Liked the theme (you are more beautiful to me than you know), but was disappointed by the fact that he seems to be trying to prove he loves her using her body rather than trying to convince her heart. It could have been a better story if he had actually pursued her on a emotional level before taking her to bed. Better yet, instead of taking her to bed.
The Groom Maker
It was cute, but had a contradiction in it that I'm not sure how to resolve. As far as the ML and FL, there is no BBV (Bed Before Vows), but at one point two of her previous boyfriends, the two who just happen to be there, acknowledge their relationship with Rae was a 'one-sided' and 'physical'. In the same panel, as he reviews what they said, the ML considers she is NOT promiscuous. Huh? Out of 'random' sampling of 12 boyfriends, she slept with at least 2 of them without loving them. We don't get to hear about the other 10, but you can't help but wonder. If that isn't promiscuous, I'm not sure what is, so I'm wondering if there is a translation error here, but I'm not inspired to buy the novel to find out, so it will remain a mystery. Other than that, it was a cute story.
Scandal: Unclaimed Love-Child
Call it 1.5 because the art is worth at least 1/2 a star. Beyond the fact its based on a BBV (Bed Before Vows) baby, this story is frustrating because the ML is privileged and arrogant (as many are in the genre) but he applies it with a uniquely broad ignorance that is just irritating. He gets better by the end of the book, but I have a hard time with his (and his family's) "Why didn't you tell me?" accusations considering what was happening when she DID try to tell him. There should have been some recognition of culpability and apologies instead of accusations. And considering how he dumped her, how can he think BLACKMAILING her back into a relationship would be better than apologizing and telling her the truth?!? The whole premise just starts out on a sour note that never really gets turned around. It has chances, but doesn't take them so it just wasn't very satisfying. Additional (SPOILER) comment in topics.
Thank Heaven for Little Girls
It started out good... he got my hopes up. At first he said he couldn't know if he would want to marry a gal unless he had her in bed first, but then he respected the FL enough to not push. I got hopeful! It was short lived, and she's the one who caved. Sigh. Other than that unnecessary stuff, it was a good story.
