In The Spaniard's Bed
From Ex to Eternity Newlywed Games I
[Newlywed Games 1] (3*) - The whole plot hinges on one poorly chosen word, and that really threw the whole story off for me.
Illicit Night with the Greek
I didn't hate this tale the way others did. I can agree there are definitely family problems and, without a doubt, they contributed to a great deal of heart ache, but FL's reputation was of her own deliberate construction, and that played its part as well. Truth should be fought for whether or not people believe it. Don't confirm lies.
Alexei's Passionate Revenge
The Marchese's Love-Child
The art was the only thing that was consistently enjoyably. The story, and especially the hero, were very flawed. Topic created below.
Taken for Revenge, Bedded for Pleasure
I think this story would have been better without the unnecessary BBV (Bed Before Vows). It wasn’t intrinsic to the plot and cheapen the story for me. I’m also not sure how the old ‘boyfriend’ managed to get away with and maintain the ability to display his non-consensual porn. Clearly the family had influence, but they could do nothing? And yet the hero can shut it down with one sentence (thankfully).... It doesn’t make sense. Beyond that, it wasn’t a bad story, although it wasn’t necessarily good either. I enjoyed the art more than anything else, and the old wrongs righted theme was good, but just found I didn’t really enjoy it.
Beauty and the Beastmaster - Harlequin
1 chap - It was well written, making you smile at one point and pulling on your heartstrings the next. The only thing I didn’t like was the bed before vows. The plot didn’t require it and strengthening the emotional and saving the physical for after the marriage is much more intimate. It builds a stronger marriage. Real life statistics support it.
Wanted By Her Lost Love
Bed before vows is the foundation of this plot. It was funny how many times the hero said he wanted to hear her side of things and then never asked her or let her speak, and then clung to his false beliefs even as he kept telling himself that that behavior wasn't like her and didn't make sense. It was a bit of a joke, really. Of course the truth finally came out, and it ended rather sadly, with his estrangement from his mother and brother. Logical, considering, but sad.
The French Count's Pregnant Bride
BBV x2... First is her mother who has an out of wedlock child she gives up for adoption, and then her daughter does it while searching for her mother. The first is intragal to the story, the second, unfortunately, is not, beyond coercing a marriage and forcing a little extra drama out of the other woman. I feel like, it could have been just as good a story without it. BBV [Bed Before Vows] removes some of the romance IMO.
