Close Your Eyes (inariya Fusanosuke)

Complete | Inariya Fusanosuke | 2009 released

Great concept, lots of different and interesting ideas, and detailed art. But with so little amount of story it remains a collection of concepts and ideas. In a “WWII like” war, a soldier is able to awaken and use a cursed (and thought of as extinct by many) dragon, whom he rides in order to fight the enemy. When not being ridden the dragon can transform into a man, which is where the Yaoi tag comes into the story.

Harem De Hitori

Complete | Hoshino Lily | 2000 released

I was hesitant at first as the steriotypical overly girly uke, but all of these were very good, but sometimes brief short stories: 1. The first one had the feel of an old folk tale meant to teach it’s readers a lesson, or like one of the shorter, lesser known Brothers Grimm fairy tails. Which, though containing little details, still leave you thinking “ah, wasn’t that a nice little tale”. This was actually my favourite, I definitely think it was the MCs humorous reaction to being able to eat sugar cubes that ultimately did it for me, I really loved how the reaction was drawn, there’s only one other Manga I can remember reading that had shock drawn in such an adorable way, but I think this one is my fave. 2. A very short circus tale with a small twist at the end 3. Another circus tale, of the circus at night and how it becomes a kind of magical brothel for a price and his footman. 4. A ‘canary’ (singer) locked in a tower all his life, made to sing every night for a night club and the seme who fell for him. 5. The only 2 chapter story and unlike the others has none of the fantasy or fairytale elements seen so strongly in the other stories. Set in a school at student body president confronts another student about his hobby of sleeping with anybody who asks. But instead of wanting to lecture him the president also wants to take part.

Otome Youkai Zakuro

I enjoyed both the manga and anime of this so far, even though it’s a bit more immature than what I usually like.

Attack on Titan Anthology

Ongoing | Faith erin hicks,Gail simone,Hajime isayama,Scott snyder,Tomer hanuka,Jeanine schaefer,Various artists | 2019 released

This is a collection of stories inspired by Attack on Titan. There is a lot of variety so some are really good, while others not so much. Between each story the most beautiful Attack on Titan art is shown, it’s worth having a look, if only just to see the art. I’ve rated this Anthology according to the best pieces read and the artworks displayed, instead of my usual overall rating that I give anthologies because the stories and their art are just so multifarious, I find it impossible to come up with an over all rating. (5 stars - though I may be extra generous because they are set in the universe of my most favourite Anime and Manga of all time). I love that artists are wanting to create pieces set in the Attack on Titan universe, it makes me excited to see more (if your like me, you have probably enjoyed imagining your own scenario for the Attack on Titan universe - I can draw manga somewhat and would have had a go at drawing my own story, if it weren't for my disability - which is why I’m so excited to see what others have dreamed up) and I love that Isayama Hajime (who I just found out is a year younger than me - makes me feel a little inadequate - damn my disabled body) is supportive of other artists embracing and reinterpreting the ingenious universe he worked so hard to create.

Wagamama na Jewel

Complete | SAWAUCHI Sachiyo | 2008 released

5 ch. = 6 ch. total - trans. 2011 Sawauchi Sachiyo I felt the second story (ch 2) had a great concept, but I think it could have been executed a lot better than it was. 1. Tenshinchigi (Gods of Heaven and Earth) The gods of earth, water, fire, wind and thunder gather together every day for their assignments. In between causing storms and rain showers love develops. 2. Fragile but Strong Mayden, the king from Dumayden and Alexander, the king from Alectoria, are best friends. One day Mayden proposes a marriage between his eldest son and Alexander's only daughter but, unknown to most, the king's daughter is actually a rebellious teenaged boy! What happens when Prince Mayville turns up for the marriage interview and meets beautiful but headstrong Alec instead of the rumoured Black Rose Princess Sandra? 3. Stray Cat Rock Simple first aid to a wounded stranger is interpreted as something more. 4. A Wanderer's Love A host who enjoys preying on women finds himself unexpectedly falling for a male florist's beautiful bouquets 5.
