☣️Mythological personifications of death, collectively known as Psychopomp (eg.Mors, Anubis, Valkyries, Grim Reaper, Shinigami, etc), guide souls to the afterlife.
The author of this seems to have ‘cherry-picked’ religious mythology when writing this. The most noticeable being the name Thanatos, which originated as the name of an Ancient Greek death god (more info after summary).
️️1=Ch.1-3+6—Shinigami no Koi:
Thanatos—a high ranked shinigami (death deity)—who had overlooked countless humans due to die, had begun to enjoy watching 1 human. Asahi Shintaro, section chief at an IT company, he never lost interest in as his actions are “too stupid”. As Thanatos heads down to get his soul, he feels uneasy. Then, when the time comes, he saves Asahi’s life instead (who was gonna die saving a stuffed cat toy from drowning). In doing so he touched Asahi, making Asahi able to see him. Many comedic misunderstandings later, Thanatos must fix his mistake by being a human salaryman at Asahi’s work & killing Asahi himself, while also stoping death via other means.
️2=Ch.4–Section Chief Oasuke:
Isake finds his coworker, & secret lover, Oasuke, acting suspicious in the reference room with a woman & gets concerned. Oasuke doesn't help either, choosing to feed his jealousy & uncertainty. The jealousy reaches an eventual climax for the couple.
️3=Ch.5–Yumishima:
Hotaru has worked in a male brothel from childhood, but refuses to have sex. His only customer is Maki who always comes with a board game, so Hotaru thinks Maki visits cos he‘s bored & rich. But when he overhears Maki talking on the phone to his boss, he learns that Maki’s visits might not be as innocent as he originally thought
☣️CONTINUED
Thanatos, the Ancient Greek personification of death, carried human souls to the underworld when the time given to them by the Fates (Moirai) expired. His image evolved like any myth, but in the beginning he was seen as merciless & indiscriminate, along with being hateful to humans. But he carries a sword, not a scythe - which is only a recent association with death. He’s often winged, wearing black & carrying an inverted torch.
