Koiiro Rain
These short stories were cute with the Yakuza and dry cleaner couple being my favourite by far. I loved the assertiveness of the uke, he was sweet and gentle but no pushover
Coming
A hot little oneshot exploring sexuality when a long time closeted gay man meets a younger seme on a hook up site. I prefer more romance in a story, but I can appreciate this for the sexy punch it gives.
Come Over
This was a lovely sequel to the first sexy meeting set up in the prequel, ‘Coming’. This oneshot is even better than the first as these two are starting to have feelings for each other beyond sex.
Oniisan to Yobinasai
Caution: Suicide themes. When a student contemplates suicide from the edge of a building the building owner comes out and talks to the boy. The older guy (excellent art on both characters btw, but the older man is pretty special) finds out the boy is being bullied at school for being gay. Talking the teenager down he then propositions a sexual reward. The story was very fast but there was something intriguing about it. Perhaps it’s as simple as the art, but there are similarities between the 2 and they seem to be headed towards a relationship from their rather unusual first encounter.
Can I Hold Your Hand?
A touch of something different with an older, very masculine novelist and the younger magazine columnist who fell for him at first sight. These neighbours form a friendship strongly founded on similar likes and interests but what happens when keeping a romantic distance becomes too stressful for the young Dave? This adorable story is irresistibly sweet and I love that it’s the cuter one who becomes the uke.
Sweetheart is the Destination
A oneshot about childhood best friends who live together as working adults and the deal made to get a shut in spend time outside. It’s a kinky surprise and brings them even closer. Cute and fun to read.
Egoism Heat
Trigger warning: Rape and emotional trauma A surprisingly powerful story that packs a lot into 5.5 chapters. This starts off lightly with workaholic salaryman Shoma Otsuki (omega), who is flung unwillingly into plans for an arranged marriage by his concerned mom. Stumbling home drunk one evening, Shoma is helped by a vagabond young alpha with a pretty face. Drunk inspiration has Shoma asking Kanata Tachibana to pretend to be his lover in order to deter his marriage candidate. That is the start of these two total opposites relationship. By living together they become close, but both need to work on relying on the other and honest communication. Then there are hate filled others and dark times to deal with. It’s not all smooth sailing but it’s real love for the MCs and the family they create together from such an unlikely beginning.
EGOISM
What a story! It broke my heart more than a little to see how shattered trust resulted in so much devastation between the MCs. There was something so sad in witnessing the insecurity and desperation felt by Jihan (beta) as he tried to hold on to Jaeun (omega) after he snuck out to treat Siwan’s (alpha) dog and came back in heat and with a bite. We are all shaped to some degree by our past, and the fathers of both MCs left some deep scars on their psyche. Their closeness in large part arose from being each other’s best ally and defender in their mixed family. Jihan had the added emotional trauma of being abandoned by his father who chose his fated mate over his family. As his mother mentioned, he had a darkness within, and everything happened in such a way that his need to protect became tarnished with the need to control. How devastating to realise that you have only hurt the one you love. That he left immediately was the hope for redemption. If he had stayed, knowing fully what he was doing and how it affected Jaeun, would have been too selfish. Both MCs needed the time apart to be sure of what they wanted, and that they could be a positive person in the others life in the manner they had always been before Siwan. This story was angsty yet sweet. There were a lot of things that made me angry for the characters and some that made me frustrated at the MCs. I even cried for them. Thanks to the author for the satisfying and heartwarming ending though. It was a roller coaster of emotions with a great finish. Signs of a really good story for me.
Kore Mo Shigoto Desu
System engineer Teppei Tsukui (24 yo) has had a crush on Nozomu Tsukishima (35 yo) from sales since he started at the company aged 21. The touchy and exuberant workaholic Nozomu has been married throughout that time, however his recent divorce and more insane work deadlines have pushed Teppei to make a rather indecent proposal. These guys becoming a couple was really very adorable to follow. Teppei obviously cared deeply for the older man but was still trying desperately to protect himself from the fallout of being dumped by someone who had spent 35 years being straight. Not that Nozomu planned on dumping him. If only he could convince him of the depth of his own feelings.
