Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #yaoi(1525)

Shinonome and Yukimura’s wrap up story has Yuki chan considering things from a new perspective as big changes loom. This was a satisfying conclusion for our prickly VP and his laid back delinquent lover.

From school bully to obsessed stalker, Yoshinori spends his days secretly following Takasae. But when the object of his obsession finds out he is being stalked by an old nemesis, Yoshinori’s persistence may be the only way to change things from a one sided love to mutual affection. Sweeter than you would think for such a theme, with elements of kink thrown in for extra fun, this was a really good story.

It’s a good story concept but lacked a little in the smoothness of the delivery. The introduction had a “look back to when” segment that wasn’t really needed. Better to have started with their first meeting and go from there. The back in time was too recent to be relevant and gave the story a choppy flow. I liked the idea of being possessive of each other but there was no real intensity conveyed. Overall, a good read to pass some time.

Two student teachers find love. The first with his former sensei who encouraged him to be true to himself. The second with a prickly tempered man who found himself bewildered by the sunny spirited and social young sensei. I probably liked the second couple more, but both stories were sweet reads.

17yo senior Ono and student teacher, Shiina begin a forbidden relationship in Ono’s final year. Ono (seme) is an ace student. Physically fit, kind, honest about his feelings, and surprisingly assertive. Shiina (uke) is more restrained and reticent with his feelings, but he is swept away by Ono’s puppy like eagerness and love. I liked their dynamic of older uke, younger seme, and I liked that in many ways Ono was more emotionally mature and confident in his feelings than his sensei. I also liked the sexual dominance the younger seme was able to assert over his more delicate delicate sensei but don’t be mistaken into thinking that Shiina was a pushover because he was more than able to be on equal footing with his younger partner. Their romance was pretty fast and sexually intense, but the author balanced that by making it extend beyond the initial love confessions and sexual chemistry to graduation and beyond. I really enjoyed it and you can tell that the author had fun writing it (the moments where Ono was fantasising what he would do to sensei when he was going to visit his home was cute and funny).

These stories were enjoyably heartwarming and easy to read. The mangaka likes symbolism and there was a little in each story. The first it was the sky and all the different ones to experience in the world, and the second it was a love of shiny, bright things and snow. The characters had an opposites attract appeal and while the step to being in love may have seemed fast, it was balanced nicely by seeing each couple in their respective futures.

The very cute music idol Hinato attends a part time school as his more authentic self. A little awkward and a lot naive, Hinata is a shy, scruffy looking guy who really wants to be friends with fellow student, the serious and hardworking, Yamada. However, Hinata having seen a glimpse of his older brothers more risqué behaviour with his best friend, Hinata begins to wonder if being best buds with Yamada means that kind of behaviour is expected of him too. And if so, why is it so appealing? This is a really cute little story, although you have to wonder how anyone in the entertainment industry could remain so innocent? Well, not forever ;)

This is the kind of story that you want to take your time with and enjoy. Single father, Oosawa had known his regular restaurant customer Yoshioka, for a long time now. He had seen the openly gay salary man go through relationships with a variety of partners and couldn’t help but be a little judgemental at the string of broken hearts left in his wake. But when he gets to know the now single Yoshii outside of work, the two become unexpected friends (although Yoshioka cheerfully pursued the straight man for something more) and each learns to depend on the other in an unlikely romance. Their story makes sense, the characters have well developed histories that make their relationship feel authentic, and it’s all just very sweet.

It’s a cute story if a bit weird at times (the untouchable flower bit ). When the beautiful yet lonely Hiyori- sensei receives his first confession it was from his student, Uzuki. Flustered, he thanks the intense adolescent and tells Uzuki to see him in 5 years when he is an adult. Fast forward those years and the still lonely Hiyori makes a prayer in a small temple to meet his destined love. Only it turns out that the one he meets is Uzuki, who is the math teacher at the school Hiyori just transferred. And not only does Uzuki sensei still remember Hiyori, but every time Hiyori sets eyes on him or even think about him but he gets an uncontrollable and obvious erection. And it seems that Uzuki sensei is only too happy to take advantage.

Senior in high school, Komatsu Shin had moved into the school dorm. When his roommate, Nakajima found out that he was gay, Komatsu was prepared to be despised but instead he found himself being set up on a blind date by the friendly student. Imagine Komatsu’s shocked disbelief when the one who showed up was actually the dorm supervisor, Shindo-sensei! The same sensei whose teasing constantly irritated Komatsu.
