Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #childhood friends(221)

Adam no Rokkotsu

Complete | Michinoku atami | 2019 released

Yuuma (26yo)is an easy going guy who works at an amusement park known as "Dream Park". His home is in the staff dorms and when his new roommate, the gentle Shikiori Kazuha (26yo) moves in his normal, peace filled days are about to become a lot more crazy. Especially when he meets Shikiori Rei (26yo), his arrogant and possessive new roommate. I loved this story. The art, the wonderful characters, working with such a challenging topic within the confines and restraints of a BL manga. A standout story that ticks all my boxes.

Mahoko! Quit Being So Bossy!

Complete | Hiraku miura | 2019 released

Mahoko and Chise are lifelong best friends. Born on the same day, their families living next door to each other, the two grew up alongside each other. So it was natural for Manoko to have a crush on Chise. Sadly for her though, the feminine boy who took her hairbands was gay. He even stole her first boyfriend and she should hate him for that, indeed sometimes she does. But their bond is too deep. So when Chise kisses her, Mahoko is stunned and confused. Who is this possessive, masculine guy? I liked the story. I always enjoy reading about possessive partners in love and this pair seemed destined to always be together, in this life and beyond. Cute. The second story was unfinished, though it looked promising. The translation team was a bit off with some pages uploading and had sloppy cuts which was a shame.

Aoi Hitomi no Bakemono

Complete | Gamoko tsuyu | 2019 released

Tatsumi is a boy who has has inherited the beautiful blue eyes of his bloodline. Not only are they beautiful, they also are a sign of his supernatural powers; to know all of a persons thoughts and desires, every secret, simply by looking in their eyes. When Tatsumi’s powers became evident, he was sent to live with his grandfather on an island. Protected yet caged, Tatsumi's blue eyed grandfather told him that even though he will face heardships and misfortune, to never hate or despise humans, and to try not to live alone, like he had. After the death of his grandfather, Tatsumi meets Kei, a kid who he had saved from his abusive father. Kei, who has a crush on Tatsumi, became a scientist to help Tatsumi finally be able to look in his eyes. Their story was surprisingly real and healthy, despite the supernatural elements and Tatsumi being restricted to the island. There was a lot of character growth and development, including time (years) spent apart but still committed to each other. I enjoyed it, perhaps only wishing Tatsumi didn’t have to be left behind while Kei went and had fun in England.

Quit writing, dear author!

Complete | hanro, gokwoo | 2000 released

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a world where a new author struggled to deal with harsh online criticism and the will of his own characters. It’s a story within a story that even takes characters from the real world. In Mastermind’s (the author) story, uke Hee-wun had been in love with his childhood friend Geon-ju, for 20 years. Now working as Geon-ju’s assistant he strives to hide his love from his clueless boss and friend. One night Hee-wun found an app on his phone that had a BL story that sounded surprisingly familiar. It was HIS story, and Hee-wun came to the staggering realisation that he was a character in a novel. So begins a tale that expands to include a rival for Geon-ju’s affection, the beautiful boy Seom. Seom came with a best friend, the cold and serious Wu-Yeol (who fell instantly for Hee-wun at first sight). And then there was the mysterious and strangely powerful Jihun. What secrets did he hide? These characters followed the lines of their story, but as awareness grew amongst them things became rather chaotic for them and the author who struggled to get them to follow the storyline. Then there was the question, who was the main seme character? And who would Hee-wun fall irrevocably in love with? What happens to characters who get killed off? And ultimately, can the dear author get his characters to have a HEA or will he quit writing? I loved the ending, how the mangaka gave all the characters some consideration that showed the author’s affection for them quite clearly. For me, this is a recommended read.

The Greatest Villain

Complete | sujin kim,Kim Su Jin | 2019 released

Read on MangaToon. A surprising pair, the angelic and kind Sawoo, and the dangerous, predator like Kido. Opposites attract and even the way that they love each other is different with Sawoo’s love being innocent and pure and Kido’s love more greedily sexual. Still, these two worked and I loved their story.

Megane To Koi To Aoi Tori

Complete | natsukawa shiori | 2013 released

Two stories set in school. The first featured childhood friends to lovers and was cute because the handsome seme loved his partner just as he was. The second featured a seme who was abused at home and the cute guy he falls for who is a sweet, family loving guy. I preferred the second story, it was a deeper relationship and their growing understanding of each other was touching.

Jibun Katte.

Complete | Hinako (ひなこ) | 2000 released

Hideaki and Tomo have been best friends for years. But even best friends can have disagreements and for these guys, it’s how Hideaki eventually chases off all Tomo’s girlfriends. Only this time, Hideaki doesn’t seem to have noticed. Maybe he has someone for himself? When Tomo spies Hideaki kissing his BOYfroend, everything turns upside down! Very cute story about a desperately possessive friend and changing a friendship to something deeper.

Deawanakereba yo Katta no

Complete | KOMIZU Kiyo | 2015 released

A lot of potential with beautiful art, an interesting backstory and some fun side characters, but each new chapter felt like a big jump ahead in what had happened. Like one moment they were arguing and the next chapter it was kisses and hugs. Kept giving me mental whiplash. A shame because this should have been 5 stars except for the poor storyboarding.

Yurufuwa-kun Niwa Wake ga Aru

Complete | omayu | 2019 released

Rintarou and Natsu are childhood friends who have grown up next door to each other. When Natsu gets his best friend to pretend to be going out with him, the innocent Rintarou had no idea that the cute, crybaby childhood friend he knew so well was doing everything he could to keep Rintarou for himself. I thought the story was adorable. Natsu was a beautiful manipulator. His ability to cry on demand was put to good use, and I loved that even when the two boys fall for each other and are honest, Natsu would still whip out the fake tears. Natsu’s backstory explained why he was insecure with keeping those he loved and Rintarou had always been the one to make his world special. Natsu’s feelings were intense for Rintarou but he was vulnerable and afraid to lose his friend. His moment of honesty was beautiful and I loved that it happened. Amazing art, this was a fun story with some intense moments. Recommended.

Ani To Wa Koinaka Nandesu Ga.

Complete | kurosawa shii | 2014 released

Two stories with interesting characters. The first, a taboo romance between step brothers (no blood ties) with an age gap. The second, childhood friends where the one who works as a writer finally angrily confesses his love of 10 years. Both stories were cute
