Ikoku Irokoi Romantan
One remarkably naive young yakuza meets a tall, beautiful Italian ship captain while drowning his angst over his recent marriage. The two start a sexual relationship that continues in Italy amidst the drama of being lost, kidnapped, drugged, rescued and (ofc) reluctantly married. Don’t read this if you are wanting a gritty yakuza story. This is lighthearted but sexy; a fun story that focuses on opportunities for the MCs to fall in love.
Before Daylight Love
Crossover Love
I enjoy this story because it’s so different with 2 rather stoic MCs who do not wear their hearts on their sleeve. It’s not a fluffy, feel good story but it’s still lovely and sweet. It has a subtle intensity in how the MCs seek each other, their possessive natures and how they protect each other in their own ways. Both were beautifully drawn too, this mangaka has such a talent with stunning characters.
The 4th Guard
One of those yaoi that set the benchmark
Kakugo wo Kimete
Two really good stories. I loved Tetsu in the first story as the adorably cute uke you don’t want to cross. Senou wasn’t the most likeable guy as a partner, but it was fun to see how he was no match for the deceptively naive Tetsu and how he changed for the better when he showed a willingness to put himself second and protect the boy he was falling for. I found their dynamic loads of fun simply because of how scary Tetsu could be. The second story was more enjoyable insofar as both characters were likeable from the start and their sensei x student story was surprisingly hot. Loved the dad too. He’s another who is more than meets the eye.
Moon and Sun(Abe Akane)
Outstanding story with seriously beautiful art. I totally loved these MCs.
Narippanashi no Ai no Kane
Three interconnected stories set around a yakuza group. They are all fun reads with beautiful art but my favourite would be the first story of reuniting friends and a large debt.
Koi made Hyakurin
Loved this story! Kotaru and Toraji were such an unlikely seeming couple; the upcoming yakuza boss and a florist. But these guys were not the typically depicted representations of their roles and that added a whole extra element of fun and charm to the story. I really enjoyed the art, especially of the more flashy Kotaru with his scar, cheeky grin and 50’s bad boy hair.
Gokudou Darling
Such a hot yakuza story where the uke, Tatsume, is a strong guy not about to be easily pushed around by anybody. I loved Yoshimune and his relentless pursuit of Tatsume. The yakuza boss was ruthless but cute, determined and dangerous and you knew it would be inevitable for Tatsume to resist him for long. Definitely one of the better yakuza stories I have read (though it didn’t delve too deeply into a crime lord lifestyle) and that probably comes down to how strong and likeable Tatsume was and his respect for women (inspired by his mum) was a nice change too.
