Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #Transmigration(4)

Kanata Kara

Complete | HIKAWA Kyouko | 1991 released

An epic romantic adventure graphic novel that was totally addictive. Japanese high school student Noriko transmigrated to a fantasy world where the first person she meets is Izark, a serious and powerful young man who seemed ready to let her follow his lead. In a world of monsters and a mysterious prophecy, Noriko and Izark travel together and fall in love while the legend of The Awakening and The Sky Demon looms. No more spoilers, just read this wonderful story where the FMC is an ordinary girl who is neither a clinging damsel in distress nor an overpowered Mary Sue. She musters her courage to help where she can and is incredibly loyal and supportive of Izark. That warrior in turn treasures her and it’s so sweet how close the two are. This is an older story written around 1990’s - 2000’s, so the art style is (naturally) older, but it is still cute (especially the MCs) and it’s balanced by the plot which was rich and colourful.

Red River

Complete | SHINOHARA Chie | 1995 released

An epic graphic novel set in the time of the dominance of the ancient Hittite Empire. The FL started as a 15 year old school girl from Japan who was forcibly transmigrated many thousands of years to the past and the city of Anatolia. There she met Prince Kail and found herself falling for the roguish playboy whilst becoming embroiled in the murderous schemes of the Dowager Queen. This story spans years and along the way Yuri is in the thick of political intrigue, war, kidnappings and revolution. I liked how she became stronger as a woman over time. Always a little impulsive and reckless but gradually tempering that with maturity. Yuri was charismatic and I appreciated that she wasn’t restricted by her gender in her ability to be a powerful woman in her own right. The romance plot line was very sweet. Yuri and Kail were devoted to each other and for all the prince wanted to keep Yuri tucked away and protected he never stood in her way and valued her opinions and independence. The secondary characters were great, from the twin bodyguards to the enemy leaders and generals to the dowager Queen. There were some heartbreaking moments that had me crying, but overall this was a really entertaining romantic adventure that I loved.

Shock the Imperial Palaces

Ongoing | Ake | 2000 released

Completed story Opinion: I enjoyed this a lot but it had a few flaws. Firstly, there was not a lot of couple time as most of the story occurred with each in their separate residences and not even physically crossing paths for a while. Secondly, the entire arc of the FL sister and ex boyfriend was incomplete. There was absolutely no resolution for whether they ended up together, or turned on each other, or if the crown prince had a part in their relationship or even if the crown prince got to stay the crown prince. Extremely unsatisfying for all story aspects apart from the MCs.. Main couple: 8/10 FL: 8/10 - Liu Shuangshuan, eldest daughter of Prince Mu. I liked the FL, she was intelligent and kind, and refused to stay the victim in a toxic relationship. Transmigrated with her younger sister from the modern world. Her sister transmigrated to be Liu XiangXiang, younger daughter of Prince Mu and daughter of the current princess consort. ML: 8/10 - Fifth Prince . Poisoned as a child, the fifth Prince managed to miraculously survive but remained in a weakened body and remained sickly. However his mind was sharp and cunning and his calm presence earns him the love and loyalty of many. Story/Concept: An interesting story that has three connected people transmigrating together. In the Imperial era there is a lot of palace intrigue and the carry over hostilities between the FL and her sister and ex. The MCs dynamic was really lovely, but I would have enjoyed more couple time. We never even got a kiss. And as mentioned above, too many unresolved issues like what happens with the Mu men when they return home, and did the baby get safely delivered. Too much incomplete. Tropes: Historical. Royalty. Transmigration. Sibling rivalry. Cheating ex. Bitchy younger sister syndrome. Childhood meeting. Forgotten memories. Assassins. Palace intrigues. Smut: None. Ending: Too many unresolved plot points. Happy for MCs. Art: Consistently pretty. TW's: Extra: Available and completed on WebComics app.
