Angel Buddy
Bring on the ugly tears It’s a masterpiece, a beautiful love story, a gem amongst stones. Loved it.
Untouchable
Really great dynamic between this pair. I liked that we got to see them as adults with their shit together. Just a shame with all that chemistry and intensity we never even got a kiss, let alone any sexy moments. It was sadly lacking in the romance.
Dine With a Vampire
I didn’t read any comments before delving into this story so it was all delightfully unspoiled. The characters were all great, from Sooin with his tragic history or Chi-hwan who finally found someone to bring happiness into his life. I appreciate that there was a good amount of violence in vengeance, it would have not been as good if things were forgiven and forgotten. Even though it’s marked completed, it feels like there may be some more side stories, but either way this was a good read.
When The Yakuza Falls Inlove
A yakuza story is something that I usually love and while I liked this it wasn’t as good as I hoped. Little Thomas was adorable, as were all the yakuza whipping out their phones for photos when he was particularly cute, but otherwise the art didn’t really grab me. Also, the story plot was rather dull, it took a while to differentiate between the secondary characters and the conversations were immature. For all the sex scenes, I think that’s what lost me. Maybe it was the translation (especially in the beginning) but this felt like it relied on trite topics and I just didn’t connect with the characters. Just me though, it’s got a good rating so others obviously like it.
Please Call Me Red Panda
Supremely adorable slice of life with a young red panda and the tsundere boss who obviously adores him. It’s like adopting a child and providing everything you can for the little one, all while encouraging independence and being proud of their achievements. Pure fluff and comedy, zero romance, family friendly story.
The Director Who Buys Me Dinner
I read this on Manta (support the author) but will comment here. Centuries ago, Min Yu Tan accidentally named one of God’s favourites "Xue Dong Bo" thereby giving her a destiny that lay outside of heaven. As punishment, he has been living countless lives looking for Xue Dong Bo, fated to fall in love and seek hers in return. However, each reincarnation where they find each other only Min Yu Tan remembers their past, and that if one dies then so will the other. In this life, Min Yu Tan is Yudam, Director of Min Entertainment. Wealthy, attractive, successful and well liked, he is a pinnacle of perfection. Yet he is nothing before the new secretary who he instantly recognises as the reincarnation of Xue Dong Bo. Only this time, the one whose life is so fatefully entwined with his is a man. Young and beautiful, Dongbaek thinks that the new director has lost his mind when he is bluntly told that they must date. Or die. This story didn’t instantly grab me. The start seemed a little farcical and over the top, but it didn’t take long to get caught up in the story. The director’s love was something that became so genuine it grabbed at my heartstrings. The moments that he savoured like simply holding Dongbaek were really sweet. And when Dongbaek started to fall for him too, it just got better and better.
As the Moon Wanes
Available free on Manta. Support the author and read there. A magical story, not just in terms of the setting or the romance, but in the healing that Hyojoo (the FL) undergoes as she becomes connected to her emotions and the land she inherits.
Blue, Black, Sky
Brothers Jaegyung and Dohyun have always had a close bond as children of fighting parents. The older Dohyun had displayed autistic tendencies when he was small but he remembers the day Jaegyung’s voice reached him and Jaegyung remember him meeting his eyes for the first time. Sadly, when their parents divorced, the boys were separated for years, Donyun to stay with his father, Jaegyung with his mother. When they were reunited their close bond remained, but Jaegyung had moments of doubt and worry at their closeness. The asocial Donyun only cared about Jaegyung. Years later when they found out they weren’t blood brothers they had a chance to be together, but would they both reach out to grab it? I think the thing I liked most in this story was the depth of their bond and affection for each other. Donyun was more possessive and dangerous, but given that he is a high functioning autistic adult who has bonded with one person in his life, his rare moments of absence were readily understood. Really, a very good story overall.
