Ellin's Solhwa
I am usually a bonafide yaoi reader, but something about this story plot grabbed my attention and I thought to try a few chapters. Well, 52 chapters later and I finish with a few tear tracks but a happy feeling. There was something so beautiful about Ellin’s determination to grasp happiness, it was really an irresistible trait she personified. Then there was Advisor Kiha’s dedicated loyalty and love, even when events transpired that would cause anyone to wonder. He was remarkably unshakeable in his love and faith in Ellin, and that was melt worthy. Seriously, an excellent story with some beautiful artwork.
Gone with the bubbles
Beautifully drawn art gave this story such a boost, especially the moments we got to see Eunwoo as a merman. Despite that however, I struggled a lot with loving the story. Eunwoo was the first merman bound under a family curse that usually fell to the first female in the generation. If he fell in love and that feeling was reciprocated he was cursed to turn to pearls and return to sea foam or rip the heart out of the one he loves to survive. Sadly for this guy, his whole life has pretty much been dedicated to longing for his childhood best friend, Taeho. I say sadly because despite being tied to the merman as a descendant of the shaman of the past, and fully being aware of the curse and his friends feelings; despite promising to be by Eunwoo‘s side forever, Taeho lived a selfish, self centred existence and consistently hurt Eunwoo deeply. Nearly all of Eunwoo‘s memories of their time together (especially past early childhood) were sad ones. Taeho would sleep with anyone, male or female, and hurt them too. He would have these relationships in clear sight of Eunwoo knowing his friends feelings. At first, I thought it was because he loved Eunwoo and wanted to keep him safe, but he only realised his feelings at the end. Sure, there may have been an element of looking after Eunwoo because he drove away any feelings of love, but it mostly seemed to be from self preservation. He was told that his fate was tied to Eunwo’s so he was happy to keep Eunwoo and therefore himself alive. I don’t like selfish lovers, irrespective of any grand gestures at the end. I fail to understand loving a selfish man who makes you cry and deliberately keeps you from love. It was simply not my thing. I would rather Eunwoo end up with the vice principal (who got treated shabbily btw) who was a kind man. Still, the epilogue was all fluffy feelings and love and HEA. But it was like a rose on a pile of manure for me, simply because Taeho was not a likeable lover I could respect. Sorry to those who enjoyed the story, I really tried and read every page hoping for Taeho to be redeemed. Alas, not for me :(
Best Friends
A rare find; female alpha (Minju) x female omega (Hayoon) full colour story. The number of Yuri I have read could be counted on one hand (including this) but I couldn’t resist an Omegaverse tale. This didnt disappoint either. Minju has loved Hayoon since she first saw her as a child. But in this world where omegas have little value and where a recessive omega orphan like Hayoon has even less to offer with her dubious breeding chances, insecurity has her keeping Minju at an emotional arms length. I loved Minju’s emotional strength and determined love for her best friend and felt a little sorry for her at times as Hayoon didn’t share what bothered her. Despite that angst, the story was beautiful to read with some lovely art. I would happily read more Yuri if I can find others like this.
Blood Link
A wonderful saga that follows multiple generations of vampire and lycan pairings that starts with a playboy male vampire and the male human/ female lycan he fell in love with. This pairing were the main MCs and their story took all of season 1. I loved them because their love for each other was so strong and intense. I kept waiting for all the angst but it was a sweet story with loads of steamy sexy scenes. Their child was the main for the second story and I didn’t enjoy that as much but it was still entertaining and it started to wrap up all the loose ends of the overarching vampire vs lycan plot. Beautiful art and adorable babies really gave this story a big boost too.
Warrior's Afterlife
Missing chapters, found the extras on a different site. Despite having beautiful art the story was lacking substance. The demon king was a real shy sweetie which is a bit of a waste for a demon king. It’s like I was waiting for the fearsome ruler of the demons and got a shy salaryman (¬_¬;)
Sand and Song of the Seas
By an amazing stroke of luck, I read Red River before this story and while they were of different times by different authors, it was the descendants of Red River who featured in this story. This story was beautifully drawn and the characters were wonderful enough that I wanted their happiness to be really special. I liked the ML more than the FL because his love and devotion were so all encompassing. Ramses had to bear the pangs of separation way more than Ivy and his dedication to getting her back was enough to break my heart at times. Not to say that Ivy wasn’t also prepared to sacrifice all for Ramses, just that he suffered. I liked the ending (though a part of me didn’t care if history stayed a little different for them to be together) and read that there is a potential for more. Tbh I am happy just seeing them finally together. I know that those two souls will love each other anywhere, anytime.
You Are My Destiny Webtoon
This story was an interesting way to bring some of the gods and Titans of Greek mythology to the modern world. It focuses on the love between the Titan Prometheus, and the first human female Pandora who are reincarnated as Prome (K-pop singer and actor) and Han Sora (university student). I liked the touch of sadness that goes with most Greek tales and is evident in the past for Prome and Han Sora. I also liked that they retained many memories and even abilities because (despite the author denying fates hand) it made it seem evident that these were destined lovers with a new chance to get their fates aligned. While the story could have benefited with some more intensity and chemistry between the characters, it remains a sweet story with likeable characters.
Draig Mid Knight
A cute story about the kings knight Alexander and half dragon polymorph Kline; two who should be mortal enemies as all dragons have been forced from human lands. However, Kline recognises Alexander by his scent as a childhood friend and his joy at having his loneliness appeased by his friends return is only eclipsed by Alexander’s bright enthusiasm and willingness to do what’s necessary to regain his memories. The story is sweet and character focused.
By the Way, Dragon Mistress!
A short story that was a nice, easy read. With intrigue, royalty, knights and a dragon all it needed was a little more romance (a kiss isn’t too much to ask for is it?) to be properly satisfying.
