Ookami-kun wa kowakunai
I loved this story! Shapeshifting beast-men and a society where the herbivores were often at risk of being subjugated by carnivores was the backdrop for this story. Students Shirou (white wolf) and Kuroto (flopsy eared bunny) were the MCs who were drawn to each other despite any expected prejudice. They were both adorable, I could happily keep reading stories set in this world.
Bakeneko Katatte Sourou
I totally loved this story. The otherworldly supernatural elements were perfect and added to the twirl of emotions this story wrought. Shounen-ai Seme: Kihachi. Ancient Bakeneko from the end of the Edo period. Tall, dark, often with feline features and able to change form. Magical being and Koudan storyteller. Loved Souta almost from the moment they met eyes for the first time. Caring and protective of Souta but keeps a little distance emotionally. Uke: Matoi Souta. Kihachis’ ‘Little Sparrow.’ Lonely, terribly overworked salaryman who is so ground down by his existence even thoughts of suicide stir no feelings. When he watches a Koudan performance he is enthralled by the story and the storyteller. Fascinated by Kihachi and his world. A gentle and sweet guy; you just want good things for him.
Kashiwagi Kyoudai no Renai Jijou
Some cute short stories all bundled together for those times you don’t want to get bogged down in anything too demanding. Definitely some original concepts that were fun (eg 30 year old virgins get odd wizard powers).
Hyper Love Power
This was really quite sweet with the 2 who were meant to be enemies falling deeply in love. There were loveable idiots everywhere in this fantasy world existing in the real world setting. Feuds, god like powers, wiped memories, danger and BL. Plenty to enjoy for an afternoon reading.
Paradigm Shift
Potentially an excellent story, just a few things that let it down for me. Firstly, Yamagi did something worse than rape Hibiya. He unethically experimented upon him, changing him from a beta to an omega because he had loved him for years. This was devastating for Hibiya, and I know that everything all got tidied into a tidy bow of omega falling for lying alpha and won over by long term love. But it really rubbed me the wrong way to arbitrarily manipulate someone’s gender in such a deceitful manner. My other problem was how the plot became challenging to follow after Hibiya started becoming symptomatic of being omega. Maybe it was all the secrets and alluding to the secrets, or maybe it was just lost in translation. I did like the way Yamagi had loved Hibiya for so long, and how in every other way than exerting his will over a non consenting adult and lying he was nice. Ofc I loved their child, and that they had a HEA. All that was sweet.
Honjitsu wa Ohigara mo Yoku
The fox and rabbit story was full of fluffy sweetness. Rikka (the son of the rabbit head) went to the fox land in order to query the terms of a fox/rabbit alliance. What he didn’t expect was for the son of the house of foxes Shirou, to fall in love with him at first sight. Next thing, Shirou and Rikka were wed and the love was being reciprocated. The story moved at a fast pace and was told in segments (eg, newlyweds, falling in love, falling pregnant, their son at 5 etc). It was a shame in some ways because a lot of world and relationship building could have really given depth to the story. But it was still lovely and full of love and happiness. The 2nd story of the stressed and sex addicted salaryman and the pretty (and formerly frigid) prostitute was ok. Also fast paced there was no unnecessary drama (surprisingly considering their characters) and a fast track to being perfect for each other. Nothing special but still a nice read.
Kedamono Bitch
Novelist Ikusabe returns home to an intruder. A rare beast human has hidden in his apartment and holds him captive as he lays low from police attention. At least, that is what Dieter thinks at first. But Ikusabe is remarkably unconcerned about being held captive by a monster. In fact his fascination and care for his captor makes Dieter wonder who is really the captor and captive. This story had plenty of smut scenes, Ikusabe was in no way shy about his sexuality and was fast to fall for his wolf man. It fell short with a few unclear points for me. For example, it seemed important for Dieter to have sex in beast form (which is a humanoid body btw) as part of accepting himself and opening his heart to another, but the mangaka was unable to do that. And it felt like there should be more to the significance of the choker. But overall, this was really worth reading.
I'm Mediocre ♂, But I'm Loved in A Different World Anthology Comics
So much fun with these one shot stories all set around the theme of being reincarnated in a BL manga or otaku game with awareness enough to change the established course of events. From MPreg and giving birth, to being reborn as a baby to being a powerful wizard determined to bring happiness to an abused hero, these were all perfect bite sized stories that I wish were longer.
