Shen Sheng

Complete | Xuan Zhe | 2000 released

~ one of the best BLs on this platform hands-down. cheng mu and shen sheng have such a healthy relationship, quickly solving disputes and commicating with each other. the perfect pacing, with tons of fluff. no sexual abuse, no dragging plot arcs. the beginning all the way to the end was filled with everything i wanted to see not only in shounen ais, but BL in general. as always, there are a few strings left hanging. i wonder what happens with blonde dude's feelings for shen sheng, i can only assume he'll eventually get over him. what happens to the actor and the blonde dude's relationship (not too sure how i feel about that one, kinda stepbrothers but not really)? it would be lovely to see side stories for this! the seme isn't hypermasculine, while the uke isn't afraid to say what he wants. makes the characters feel incredibly realistic, i love both of them sm <3 'shen sheng' should be more hyped up!!

~ a unique plot development that wasn't expected at all! i thought it would be another typical shounen love triangle (which i don't mind) but it surpassed my expectations. i found seunghee's character to be annoying and stuck up, but when i took into account all the discrimination he got form his family, it made sense why he distances himself from everyone. i'm glad the uncle and seunghee didn't end up together, but i definitely did not see seunghee and suhyeok being together tho! i'm so happy my bb was finally able to be happy in the end and start to resolve things with his dad. kyubin and seungtaek are the cutest couple omg. i thought i could figure them out, but their characters are more complex and realistic than i thought. the author did a wonderful job of portraying a typical high school romance, the ups and downs. she managed to keep it relatively light and easy to read. she showed that each relationships had quirks and stories of their own, and it was enjoyable to see the characters fall in love and eventually confess their feelings. seunghee and suhyeok ended up together a lot quicker than i expected, but it was a nice contrast to seungtaek and kyubin's difficult, push and pull relationship. I didn't feel like any plot arcs were dragging, which is pretty amazing considering that seungtaek & kyubin's flashback lasted 20 chapters. i wasn't sure why it was titled this in the beginning, but after reading, i truly understand why this was someone else's bl story. there are three-ish couples (w/ the uncle and boss) which would be standard in any other bl, but because of the narration, it felt like he were reading about someone else's relationship in another couple's story. that's the first for me. it went against conventional storytelling in bls that i've read, which was a little hard to get used to, but a nevertheless a nice change. i hope we'll get a side story to see what happened to kwon inbeom at the other high school, because i unexpectedly got invested in his story. i never saw inbeom and seunghee's friendship coming, so i can't help but feel soft for them + suhyeok. i would rate this a 4.25/5 maybe 4.5 (wowow i'm really precise) cute moments mixed with interesting backstories and characters <3

~ a cute, fluffy bl with a lot of smut! the art style is reminiscent of some shounen ais, but they fuck a ton dude. it was an enjoyable read, definitely happy that i finally picked this up. the seme has an added dose of cuteness to him, and the uke has a bold (but soft for seme) personality. this is the kinda combination i like to see :) pacing wasn't too terrible for a yaoi, and bc of the MANY chapters, we got to see a lot of this couple and their lives!

~ reminiscent of killing stalking in many ways, but the ending was so much more satisfying! unlike KS, the ending was sweet and finilized the story. i admit that sungho and dohyun don't have a healthy relationship, and walking away when they had a chance might have been better realistically, i'm still so happy they were given a happy ending together. a happy ending is very unlikely to happen in a psychological bl like this, so i made sure to prepare myself for the worst possible outcome. this was a refreshing change for a dark manga. the feelings sungho harbored towards dohyun (vice-versa) are so complex and twisted that it's hard for me to understand completely. sungho was focused entirely to going back to the past, that he was willing to do anything to have that comfort again. but in that comfort, there was still resentment towards dohyun and a longing to feel a deeper connection to him besides sexual attraction. he harbored those feelings for 9 years, until they manifested into a toxic obsession with dohyun. donhyun, kidnapped and frustrated, couldn't remember who sungho was and what he meant to him. usually, dohyun would've developed stockholm syndrome and bam! a relationship with no real meaning. after dohyun remembered all his memories, he realized that dohyun meant a lot to him then. this led him to develop feelings for the present sungho, after they got over all those fights>:( the character development for dohyun was a 180, and it was so nice to see him change from the shitbag he was in the beginning. in the end, he resumed his daily life but now there's sungho in it. instead of being stuck in the past wanting to change what they did, they lived in the present and accepted each other for who they are. something about that is so heartwarming to me. i think it's terrible that sungho raped dohyun multiple times, and i won't try to justify that. however, i can't help but be happy that they were able to be together and try again at love in the end. was it better than KS, i'm not sure. but it's definitely one of my favorite mangas that I've read so far. a masterpiece, had a lot of angst and messed up shit that i love so much (not the rape), and the art complimented the feeling of the story.

~ a lot of angst packed into these chapters, the art matches the overall feeling of the story pretty well and sorta reminds me of wolf in the house. refreshing and definitely is different than the normal yaoi couple. i liked that one chapter (forgot which one) that told things in glenn's pov, since i don't really find that in BLs. this manga had a similar idea to [points of three] but i liked this one a lot more. it was really cute to see an unexpected friendship blossom between ryan and yeowoon, but i do wish i could see more of ryan's past and how he ended up being a single father :( i did feel some sympathy for chang and his unrequited feelings for yeowoon, but after that rape scene, it was hard to root for him. no matter how i look at it, how is yeowoon supposed to be in a relationship with someone he grew up with who treated him badly then and now, to the point of sexually abusing him ?? it's simply not possible, but their rela- or whatever it is that they had- ended kinda well considering the circumstances. however, i do wish that i could rewind time and fix yeowoon and chang's relationship. i saw how they were before, hugging n shit, and it made me feel sad. they could have been platonic friends, there when they needed each other, but i suppose the author wanted more angst. there wasn't any resolve when it came to youyu and his potential feelings for yeowoon, we got a random apology and that's it folks. overall all though, i did appreciate the uke for not sticking to usual roles in a mlm couple, like having many feminine traits. the characters were realistically portrayed, and their feelings progressed naturally throughout the story. unlike other BLs (most commonly seen in shounen ai), they didn't over-analyze each other's actions and the pacing felt appropriate imo. however, i was really confused with glenn/creed's huge scandal that blew up in the media. why did ed get a lot of backlash when he wasn't involved in the documentary making ? ryan was, he played the victim, and yet nothing happened to him. i know that ed got outed for doing gay porn, but i honestly do NOT understand what the problem is. glenn taking advantage of him and using his sex tape to profit IS indeed an issue that's worth fighting over, but i didn't even understand what they were fighting over that made them break up. i feel like im just a dumb bitch for not comprehending this, but i can't help like missed some crucial info that would help me know what was going on. it would've been better if the author elaborated on that part more, it didn't click for me since i felt like the fight was unnecessary, bc i would've given 5 stars if not for that. it was a solid read, with realistic portrayals of a couple that goes back and forth but in the end, always finds a way to be together. heartwarming ending for the most part !

~ i wish there were more chapters so we can get more in depth with the characters and plot but it wasn't COMPLETELY rushed. tbh i'm not that mad at jinyoo and hayan becoming a couple. they lack chemistry, and it would've been interesting if he ended up with sungtae, but overall it wasn't a bad relationship. there was potential for jinyoo to have stockholm syndrome, which i thought would also be an interesting addition to the plot, but he changed for the better ig. all the characters, except the psycho, seemed to wrap things up on a good note. the ending was slightly rushed and felt incomplete, but compared to the ending of well done, this is a lot better. the extras helped since we got an explanation of almost everything. i wish there was room for the author to explore jinyoo losing his mind, a potential yandere couple. it wasn't nearly as scary as killing stalking, but it did have it's disturbing moments. it's a solid psychological manga, but ks remains at the top of my faves ! 3.5 / 5

~ wow. well done was NOT well done. the worst bl i've read so far. the lack of character development astonishes me. the plot was all over the place, seemed like it didn't even know where it was going. i wasn't wishing for a happy ending, but at least give us something that wraps things up. the ending was shit, the story was cut off abruptly and literally that was it. han realized his feelings for taejun WAY too late, didn't change his way, and is overall an unlikable character who sleeps around with any man. sangwoo is the worst top i've ever seen, he's a terrible person. if you're gonna take revenge, do it right damn. wtf was that ??? nothing progressed at all, everything about this was unsatisfactory. romance was nonexistent. plot was wack. the only good thing is that it was fully colored, but other than that it was a waste of time.
