comment found on youtube : "for anyone who thinks, 'well at least SOME of it was consensual.' saki is underage for most of this series, she cannot give consent. all of those “consensual” scenes are statuatory rape. and even afterwards, saki was so drugged and mentally manipulated that from a psychological standpoint it cannot be considered consent. and none of it was “her fault”, either. she wanted to make friends and a monster raped her for it. it was the first time anyone paid attention to her and her underdeveloped brain told her it was a way to be loved. and after being disowned, she didn’t know where else to go but to the man who started it all, and did whatever he told her. she was a child, and she was just desperate to be able to love herself." i feel like this sums up my thoughts pretty well. saki, a young girl deprived of love and appreciation, finally gets attention from asshole hayato but confuses her feelings for him as love. i see her as a victim, her naivety making her blind to the people trying to use her. she was exploited at a young age, objectified, and sexually abused by her father. her mother never bothered to listen to saki's side of the story and instead, sided with her immoral husband. in that situation, all i can see is abuse of power dynamics in a father and daughter relationship. with her classmates, i feel like she could have handled the situation differently. sleeping with them, in hopes of getting rid of those photos, was a terrible idea. if she at least told someone about her situation instead of internalizing it, the smallest bit of guidance could have steered her in the right direction. there was no one she could depend or talk to about the trauma her father caused, she was utterly alone throughout it all. if only someone had told her early on that she's worthy of love, and that her body is precious, and she doesn't have to conform to society's standards, maybe MAYBE things would have been different. although the ending was sad and depressing (the entire manga was), it was needed to convey the author's message and keep a sense of realism from beginning to end. it shouldn't even be labeled as hentai,, and it's purpose wasn't to make people get off but to serve as an eyeopener to these kind of things that happen irl. just bc it's fiction doesn't mean it can't be seen in our world. CAN THIS GIRL CATCH A BREAK PLS??? anyways the last chapter where she braided her hair and put on her glasses broke my heart. but yeah, humans are shit, don't do drugs, and pls don't fall in love with ANYONE. that's what i got out of this :D i'll leave it unrated since this is up to people's interpretation, and idk how i feel about a star rating system for this type of thing

there's a lot to delve into with this webtoon if it wasn't obvious with the title. her fling with minho was out of the blue and didn't serve to further any character or plot progression. in the end, minho's character was used as a scapegoat for everything wrong in this webtoon. he sold his colleague's laptop and plagiarized his work so he deserves to get raped by that blonde psychopath?? the author stated that minho doesn't have a future, he's just going to suffer without any purpose or meaning. why the fuck would she introduce a character like him if he wasn't gonna be happy in the end after not getting w/ duna or further the tension between the two main characters? and haesol, you poor, poor thing. i can't understand why he would do everything that duna orders him to do, even though towards the end it was nearly sexual abuse. when he fucked duna in front of a tied-up minho, i admittedly found it hot, but that was straight up traumatizing. i mean, how is minho supposed to live after seeing something so fucked up. yes, this is a psychological webtoon and i did anticipate something to this degree, but jesus christ using the bdsm tag to cover up rape is getting old. haesol needs to realize that he deserves better, just like that other girl realized. i don't really know why he's so in love with duna, she's pretty mediocre and an extremely broken person in terms of baggage. the ending was lackluster at it's best, duna isn't ready to commit to a relationship with haesol but he's still gonna wait for her? minho is depressed (blonde bastard set up his life for failure so that minho can come running to him). i did enjoy, and i don't regret reading it. but there's obviously some gaping holes in the author's logic when she writes these rape scenes with no remorse. duna constantly mentally and physically abuses minho and justifies it by reflecting on his criticism of her work in college. big deal, suck it up. you're not special and that's certainly not a reason to coerce minho to oink like a pig and roll around in her money before raping him. her entire show of fucking haesol in front of minho proved that she's not completely over minho yet. mid-story, when she pounced on him and had sex, i thought it was certain that they would be in a relationship. there was a build-up, backstory of their relationship, and then poof. they're back to square one with minho being the bad guy and doona being the victim. sure he said some nasty things, but at least he didn't rape anybody. i think this webtoon is a bad representation of bdsm and could lead to misconstrued understandings of how these types of relationships work. duna is fucked up, period. she needs to heal, alone. abusing others will not fill that void or satisfy her need for revenge against her ex. blonde basterd is also fucked up. it's not excused as roleplay, it's downright disgusting, especially the sidestory of minho and blondie. it's so disturbing, even more so than killing stalking. at least sangwoo didn't rape yoonbum and beat him up on a daily basis to force him into sex. wookyung (googled his name) is probably the worst character I've ever read about. why was it his first thought to punch minho upon seeing him, then rape a straight man? then knock him out, break his ankle, and chain him to his bed? it's giving physiological grooming. "hey i paid all your debt and rape you every night so now you have to stay with me forever locked inside of my house or else I'll hunt you down and hurt you severely". also, what's with the "strong female lead" tag. this is why people on mangago scare me, and probably why people think they're mentally ill. it's funny bc despite my entire rant, watch my give this bitch 4 stars. golly gee what's wrong with me.
