The Rows Of Cherry Trees

Complete | takahashi makoto | 1957 released

«✿✿» Well, it's not exactly a GL story like the ones we got to know in modern times, but "The Rows of Cherry Trees", released in 1957, certainly is a precursor of the genre. Considering how old it is, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a nice and well-written story! While it may not be a masterpiece, I think it's a beautiful classic manga with GL subtext. I'm glad I got to read it!

Seasons In Bloom

Complete | An-la , Go-ri | 2000 released

I must say that I was quite impressed by the contrast rendered by the combination of the delightful art style and coloring and the toxic story told through those very same peaceful soft traits. I liked it because it was like conveying the general saying about to not judge a book by its cover: it was interesting to see how, underneath that apparent calm, laid violent, vicious, obsessive thoughts, feelings and ill intentions which always quivered to be unleashed. Unfolding in such an environment impregnated with such negative vibes, it was not surprising that the story would present a tragic outcome... Upon the whole, it's a well-written story. The structure was good and those twisted emotions were well-portrayed. Needless to say, I liked the art. And I also liked the historical backdrop and the all-girls prestigious boarding school setting. Still, on a more intimate level, I cannot quite say that I liked the story. The plot was not my cup of tea and I couldn't feel any sympathy for the characters. They were all bad, starting from the adults and coming to the two girls. But I think a live-action movie of this story would be interesting to watch! > By the way, it's not yuri. [Note for myself] There's not even a proper lesbian relationship going on. It's all on one's girl part who is obsessed with the other girl, who in return hates her till the very end. Physically nothing happens either.

Oniisama E

Complete | Ikeda Riyoko | 1975 released

️Great story by Ikeda Riyoko that somehow is regrettably underrated and a bit forgotten as well, when in actuality it's a masterpiece! A coming-of-age gem! It's sad but beautiful. Deep and emotional. Especially for those who like classics and melodrama, this is a must-read! I like both manga and anime. Apart from some differences between them (with some added and|or expanded scenes, also rendered in a more melodramatic way, and especially differences regarding the final tragic events in the last chapters and the ending itself, which, on the contrary, were toned down a bit respect to the manga and the biggest difference would be Kaoru’s ending, which isn’t a tragic one in the anime), I think they are both great. About the anime, I have to say that I personally was particularly impressed by it. It's one of my favourites! It's really well-done and especially visually is well crafted: I loved all the details, all the different lights and colors, and framing. All the different background scenes like the beautiful ever-changing views of the sea and sunset, and the city's lights at night, the rainy scenes and all the general scholastic atmosphere! I loved every little detail and the music as well! Each episode was great. And it makes me feel so nostalgic, because there aren't anime like this anymore! I actually had already watched it long ago, but I didn't read the manga back then. So, now I'm so glad to have watched it again and to have finally read the manga as well! I totally recommend both anime and manga.️ > Note: It includes both lesbian and straight elements. And it includes heavy issues. Anime: gogoanime.nl / anime / dear-brother-147v

Prime Minister at the End of the Century

Ongoing | eiki eiki | 2000 released

4 Volumes (Complete) - Raw: 77mh.com / colist_167801.html > Note: The story is also shounen ai: the prime minister's secretary has an unrequited love for him and then along the story he'll get involved with another male character. And there's the married bodyguard who also is secretly in love with the prime minister since high school actually. Sequel: Yuigon >> It's dropped, but I saw the raws. Honestly, I don't really know what to think of this story! If this was a regular shoujo romance with only the prime minister and the school girl, I could have liked it, although it was nothing special to begin with. But, as a BL lover, it made me so frustrated and sad for the other characters. Both the secretary, Sai, and the bodyguard, Ryouichi, are in love with the prime minister, Kanata. At least Sai in the end will have his happy ending with Matsumoto, the journalist in charge of the prime minister and who also went to high school together with Kanata and Ryouichi. But the part regarding Ryouichi is so sad. I liked him and Kanata together...it's so sad that he is married and even has a child, when in truth he's in love with Kanata and has always kept his feelings hidden in his heart. SO, I DIDN'T LIKE IT! Then in Yuigon, which I actually had already read back in the days, the author gave us the final blow with all the flashbacks of the time when Ryouichi fell in love with Kanata back in high school, as the title of the chapters "Memories of when we met" already suggests, giving us even more sad feelings about all this story. I honestly don't get the point of making such a story! IN THE END, I CAN SAY THAT I LIKED ONLY THE PART REGARDING SAI AND MATSUMOTO. And in the sequel there's the continuation of their story in ch. 4.5, so that's the only thing I liked both in the main story and in the sequel as well!

Prince Game (Kyeong-Ok Kang)

That's it?! Also, it seems that a chapter is missing here, but it doesn't really matter...the story was quite disappointing...
