Shimanami Tasogare
A bit lacking, but still one of the most accurate LGBT+ stories out there.
Escape Journey
Now in College, Naoto has an unexpected reunion with ex-boyfriend Taichi who he broke up with for denouncing him as "sexual gratification". Naoto had been firmly influenced by his hatred of this past incident but, little by little his heart is starting to forgive Taichi who has really grown when compared to their time in high school.. ---------- This story is mixed with quite a bit of realism. The way the two MCs fall back in love, really moved me. I loved how the coming-outs were handled, and the character developments we were provided with. My heart skipped a few beats as I read this one, and I can't say I hated it. I'm quite frustrated that the abuse issue was never resolved tho. It feels like it just got brushed off as "ill fate" and doesn't sit right with me. The art is also quite beautiful, and every character introduced plays its role in one way or another, but I can't condone everything about it just for it's few positive points. It is a good read tho. But be aware that it'll be a triggering one.
Yuki No Shita No Qualia
Good read. Not a fan of the Artstyle, but it is its own thing.
Kono Koi ni Mirai wa nai
Yamete Kudasai, Mabushii Desu.
Sasano grew up in an all female household and loves pretty things, including Koga, a schoolmate in another class, who he saw for the first time during the high school greeting ceremony, the quiet and timid Sasano fell head-over-heels after Koga flashed a dazzling smile at someone, from then on, he'd often find himself lost in thoughts, admiring the latter from a distance. ---------- The way the romance was handled felt very real in this one, everything from the characters being confused, to the tiny little actions gave me a bit of pain as so much of it felt relatable, this was a really nice read, I liked it all the way to the end, I'd also love to read more about the hinted romance between the two MCs' bestfriends.
Until I Meet My Husband
Incidentally Living Together
Junwoo, a hikikomori, passes his days alone, nestled within the darkness of his room that protects him from the outside world. The one strand of light capable of piercing his world is Hanbit, his neighbor and love interest. But when Hanbit leaves to study abroad, Junwoo is forced to take on a roommate to make ends meet. ---------- Such a masterpiece! I started reading this without any expectations and came out having cried an ocean's worth of tears. Junwoo, Wooyeon, and Hanbit's characters are so realistic. The romance so very natural. This manwa really makes you think about life and teaches you how to learn and move on from things. I was shook by the realism and how detailed the two main characters were. What particularly blew my mind was how detailed their struggles were psychologically, the way something as small as taking out the trash would be hell. And how a little run in empty streets at night was a step to recovery. The accuracy at which such psychological traumas and coping mechanisms were displayed had me seriously astonished. The artstyle I wasn't a fan of at first, I started to appreciate more and more as I read along. It's a pretty heavy plot so be careful if you want to read it. But it's really worth your time!
My Starry Sky
Just when Yeonduk thought he was finally going to be free of his tormentor (and family friend and crush, might we add), Seo Skyler – coolest kid in school – saunters his way into the same classroom. Skyler might look blessed (his sister’s even in a girl group), but he’s got some family issues that only Yeonduk can understand. Yeonduk is more than just star-struck, though, and when Skyler starts acting nice and walking to school with him, he can’t help but hope there might finally be more between them...Has Skyler had a change in heart ...? will they able to go back how they were when they were kids.....? ----------- I need more chapters, I want to see more of their happiness together ;-; Such an emotional roller-coaster. The characters feel real, they grow so much throughout this entire story. The plot makes sense and the traumas being worked on aren't simply brushed over like they do in most BLs attempting a go at such heavy topics. It felt so real, and the character development is very smoothly done. I loved every chapter of it, it felt like no page was a waste. A really pleasant read. Skyler's family members all felt real as well, which I feel tends to be rare in such stories. And I really found myself investedin this story. I couldn't have wished for any better. Skyler and Yeonduk's relationship is a very complex and meaningful one, and the author really managed to make you feel any emotions they felt, depicting it perfectly. I truly felt their mutual despise, then mutual love for one another. The story was full of ups and downs, and I absolutely adored the approach regarding Bomi's character, how the author chose to use her as a really good plot device in order to make Yeonduk reach his own conclusions, and acknowledge and sort out his feelings. Such an amazing piece. Still not over the fact that they got f***in clouds in their hair tho. xD
Doutei ni Ai Nante Sakebenai!
The two Nakamuras are teased as “the dull one and the cool one.” The gay virgin Kazunari and the cheerful, much-experienced Hayato. These two of a kind with the same surname and orientation become close friends. ----------- I love the progression of Hayato and Kazunari's relationship, from sidelines admiration, to finding out they have the same sexual orientation (I prefer characters who are actually gay/bisexual over the often used "I'm gay for you" plot in yaoi). Both of them being scared of getting shunned by their peers (Kazunari especially). Hayato deserves all the love I felt for him when he confessed. He wasn't expecting anything and feared he'd already ruined things between them. I did wish to see Hayato's brother in this properly and see him and Hayato confront past demons. I think this could've made for an even more interesting plot. In conclusion, this was a really enjoyable read, also, the 'wakey wakey Hayato' scene had me rolling on the floor. Chapter 4 has moved me as much as it made me laugh.
