I'm slowly losing more and more brain-cells with each chapter, and worst part about it is that I'm okay with it.

A Guy Like You

Complete | Waje | 2016 released

Go Siwon's dreams are constantly visited by the clever, beautiful Kang Jinha. In the dream, Jinha keeps on mentioning this "incident" that happened between them but Siwon can't remember anything! And how can it feel so real? Luckily for Siwon, hints about the "incident" start to appear and Siwon is able to regain his memory bit by bit. ---------- The idea for the plot device was really far-fetched, and the characters were far from being well-written ones. The Art at first put me off, but the more I read through, the more I'd get used to it and eventually started to be okay with it. Whilst I liked the approach to Noh Seonyun's character, as well as Kang Jinha's development. The romance was really cliche. I did enjoy the conclusion regarding Siwon and Jinha's relationship, and how they handled it from there, their evolution as a couple, and especially Siwon's fears regarding his sexuality being known. This was a nice approach to an 'after I came out' story (kind of, it was forced on them, but still). I didn't completely hate it, but I can't say I liked it. There was such a sheer amount of unnecessary sexual assault and harassment, and this whole tragic backstory excuse for the antagonist is getting really old. I'm sick of characters being excused because they shed a tear or two. It's ridiculous. Waste of time in my opinion.

Just when Yeonduk thought he was finally going to be free of his tormentor (and family friend and crush, might we add), Seo Skyler – coolest kid in school – saunters his way into the same classroom. Skyler might look blessed (his sister’s even in a girl group), but he’s got some family issues that only Yeonduk can understand. Yeonduk is more than just star-struck, though, and when Skyler starts acting nice and walking to school with him, he can’t help but hope there might finally be more between them...Has Skyler had a change in heart ...? will they able to go back how they were when they were kids.....? ----------- I need more chapters, I want to see more of their happiness together ;-; Such an emotional roller-coaster. The characters feel real, they grow so much throughout this entire story. The plot makes sense and the traumas being worked on aren't simply brushed over like they do in most BLs attempting a go at such heavy topics. It felt so real, and the character development is very smoothly done. I loved every chapter of it, it felt like no page was a waste. A really pleasant read. Skyler's family members all felt real as well, which I feel tends to be rare in such stories. And I really found myself investedin this story. I couldn't have wished for any better. Skyler and Yeonduk's relationship is a very complex and meaningful one, and the author really managed to make you feel any emotions they felt, depicting it perfectly. I truly felt their mutual despise, then mutual love for one another. The story was full of ups and downs, and I absolutely adored the approach regarding Bomi's character, how the author chose to use her as a really good plot device in order to make Yeonduk reach his own conclusions, and acknowledge and sort out his feelings. Such an amazing piece. Still not over the fact that they got f***in clouds in their hair tho. xD

Dark Heaven

Complete | Juns | 2016 released

Conor, a Korean-American, lives in a city where same-sex marriage has been legalized, but where racist and homophobic hate crimes are still frequent. He joins a band with the blonde hair, blue-eyed Simon and the two go on to create their own “dark heaven” in an abandoned church. Feelings develop between the pair, but light cannot dwell with dark, and their time together will soon come to an end. ---------- This is such an emotional roller-coaster. I've lost count how many times I got sad, angry, anxious, ... the list goes on and on. The characters are all so tangible. I kept on getting triggered at all the racism & homophobia in this one. It made me want to throw fists so much. It's such a beautiful and realistic story, but dang, does it make me angry at the world. This is so well-written in its depiction of unfairness, xenophobia, racism, homophobia, abuse, white privileges, .... The list could go on and on. But as it is so well-written, that's what keeps you motivated to keep reading it. It brings up such harsh topics and doesn't hold back for a second. The characters are all extremely well thought-through and fascinating as well. Especially Connor & Simon. Their relationship is such a deep one that I couldn't help but get invested in. It just feels so real. You can truly feel their feelings for each other the entire time as you read through each and every chapter. They complete each other, their love is such a strong one, and the author does an amazing job at displaying it. The Art's also one-of-a-kind. I've never seen anything quite like it before. If you want to read this, be aware that it's extremely triggering. But it's also absolutely worth your time. It's been quite a while since I've seen a work that'd bring up real-life problems so well. And also one that'd depict love so bluntly and honestly. I was really taken aback by how much of a masterpiece this was.
