Yukidoke no Koi
Cheating is the worst.... BUT gahhhh talk about guilty pleasure
Dear Gene
There are no words for this one. It was an absolute treasure. This was so well written and it's so cool how nuanced the author wrote not just the love story aspect, But is clearly had a pretty in-depth understanding of very specific American culture (eg being gay. Mid-1900s, leaving the Amish community, homelessness in New York, interracial adoptive family). That's just really cool to see that perspective of someone who I'm assuming is not American. I do have to nitpick a bit. While i Do love how the author does get the essence of American culture, I feel like it still doesn't get delved into enough. And even saying that might be a bit unfair since this manga is already doing so much heavy lifting. I also don't quite understand the resolution that Gene has with his Amish background. I appreciate that he stuck to his wanderlust desires and it really just highlights how wonderful a partner Trevor is. But it is unclear whether or not gene visited his family again. And if not why I didn't he? Other than that, this was such a delight to read. The way expositioning of the couple throughout the story was engaging and really helped show truly who Gene and Trevor are. I am also such a sucker for slow pace progression plots, where The reader gets a glimpse of the MCs life in time.
The Third Ending
This started so so cute. Really refreshing to see a more simple plot where the ml is just a normal office worker and the MC a baker. Their interaction before they got together was super super sweet and the miscommunication and rejection really tugged my heart shrinks and actually got a few tears out of me LOL. Buuuuut just like every stupid manhwa, of course it has to fall to its trusty tropes once they get in a relationship. The ml becomes aggressively sexual all the time, jealous, and possessive. It's like you can immediately tell when the author decides to throw in all these stupid tropes because they don't know how else to pad. What is essentially an epilogue after MCS get together. Ultimately dropped because of course they had to throw in the stupid love rival for no goddamn reason. I absolutely hate how the ml the mc But they are in a COMMITTED relationship and I can't stand that the MC is fucking dense and defenseless as fuck. This is really funny and really cute and I can see why it got its high reading, but after that the couple gets together The story becomes so contrived and irritating. So disappointed
Zaijian Countdown
Omfg this is so lovely. The pacing and tone is really natural. And it's very subtle, the way it implies the MCs sexual orientation and probable unrequited love. Unrequited love for the straight best friend is a really common trope but IDK there's something about this one that hits different. The art is soooo good and detailed too. I'm excited to read more!!!
300th Confession of Love ~A Childhood Friend’s Intense Crush~
Link and Ring
Cute. Very non-toxic. Even the gay friend in the second couple wants to start a relationship but isn't overly pushy about it
Renai Saido
Ugh I love this. This is actually really endearing and I can see how the two fell in love with each other. The story actually did feel like a slow burn. While the delving into the mcs trauma is kind of glossed over, It still felt more thoughtful than most bl stories
