Haruna's manga / #slice of life(180)

Haruka Tooki Ie

Complete | yatsuda teki | 2019 released

It’s beautiful. It portrays trauma in such a way that it hurts you but at the same time, leaves you in awe at just how gruesome and cruel the world can be. It shows the pain of not being able to move on and the pain of being haunted by your past and upbringing. Hayden and Alan are characters with such complex personalities made by their own pasts in which they could not escape. They didn’t deserve the deaths they faced but they left the world together because they loved one another. All their suffering was because of the people around them who subjected them to torture and the memories of such a thing scarred them. I wish they got the happy ending they deserved but no one will ever apologise for creating a monster. Only the monsters who were created against their own wills have to suffer the consequences of their birth and upbringing. The world is beautiful as it is cruel.

Rumspringa no Joukei

Complete | Azuma kaya | 2000 released

Where has this been my whole life TT it’s absolutely beautiful. The story is so painful yet beautiful. A boy who has no knowledge of the world and a person who had big dreams and ambitions. I didn’t even know a religion known as Amish even existed but I suppose you learn smth new everyday. The story portrays the modern world quite amazingly. Although not as modern as now, it portrays the beauty of the world while also showcasing the demons and nightmares we face. Theo changed himself to fit the modern world for the one he loved and it’s honestly admirable of him. Leaving his family after rumspringa permanently for Oz shows how much he loved him. It’s not an easy thing to do. I didn’t think I’d tear up from this story but it was amazing. I recommend this to anyone looking for a story that would just wrench your heart out. It’s just beautiful to see how love is portrayed

Chicken Heart Serenade

Complete | Ohshima kamome | 2019 released

It wasn’t sad, honestly. I loved it. But what got to me was Hayato’s backstory. His family wasn’t accepting of him and he was outed by the person he thought he could trust. The idea of lying to oneself and trying to be “normal” for the sake of his family broke my heart and when he cried after sleeping with a man for the first time pulled on my heartstrings. The story itself isn’t sad. It was actually really good to see how they progressed from being fuck buddies to people who cared for each other. There wasn’t really much drama either. Hayato was quick to accept his feelings for Hiromichi and didn’t even hesitate to get him back. It’s refreshing to see. Loved it and would totally recommend it :)

Dear Gene

Complete | Azuma kaya | 2019 released

This author really knows how to pull at my heart. It's the kind of story that touches you really deep down and fills you with all kinds of feelings. It is a beautiful tragedy that portrays a boy who had such high expectations of himself, only to be struck by reality. And it's bitter sweet to see Gene grow from that with the help of Trevor. Their love was a young one and to them, having each other was such a huge part in their lives so I'm happy that they reunited with each other after so many years. I think they both are happy with their current selves now and that will surely reflect on an even happier relationship. It's a story that will live in your heart.

My Starry Sky

Complete | Star Candy Planet | 2000 released

I've known this manhwa since way back when I first started reading manhwa and it was a story I had wanted to read. But the art style wasn't to my taste and so I found it difficult to enjoy. That was back in like 2018-2019 ish. Finally decided to finish the whole story when I saw it on tiktok after so long. Because I hadn't seen this manhwa ever since I left it, never finishing it. But I'm glad I did. As all the comments say, it's a really good story. Rarely do you find stories this good imo. The angst is done really well and there's a realistic aspect to how much trauma can affect a person and follow them even after so much time has passed. It delves deep into the reasons why Skyler treated Yeonduk the way he did and it also speaks about why Yeonduk followed Skyler everywhere despite being treated like shit. How the characters resolve their issues and trauma was also really well done. Their trauma wasn't brushes aside after feelings were made clear and they still had a lot to go through. Not every character got their happy endings and rightfully so. It's very realistic to showcase Skyler's mum as someone who still holds grudges from the past and is unable to move on. It's not right but it's realistic. Because not everyone is able to forgive and forget. Until the very end, she was an asshole. A horrible person through and through. The only thing I'm sad we won't get to see is if Leo ends up alright since he was forced to move with his mum to America, leaving behind his older brother whom he had just begun to get closer to. I wish there was more. I wish we had a continuation talking about their relationship after they had resolved everything and updates into their future. But on it's own, it's still an amazing story.

Doukyuusei (NAKAMURA Asumiko)

Complete | nakamura asumiko | 2006 released

I've only ever watched small clips of the anime here and there, actually. But I was reading a manga by the same author and decided to just read doukyuusei on a whim LOL. I'm not surprised at how much it made my heart flutter bcs I've always known it was a good story. I don't think the last 2 chapters were ever animated but when they bought rings for each other, it was so cute. I was literally like squealing over it and saying how cute it was. Absolutely love it :> it's so adorable
