Veggie Channel

Complete | Tsugaru | 2016 released

Veggie-san is a fudanshi who manages a popular website where he posts pictures and videos of BL situations between boys in his high school. He ships Ukyo and Mizuha only to discover the secret between them...? High school romance, psychological, fudanshi narrator, third party perspective, rape, blackmail, yandere uke. The art is intriguing, specially because you don't get to see the narrators face. I think it serves the purpose of making it clear that the narrator, as we, are just spectators. It made me think "ah, there's so much more to characters than what we can actually read." The art style is fluffy, but beware, the plot is not. The seme and uke both have black hair, I thought that was curious. Sometimes there was a bit too much going on in the panels so it was overwhelming, but I didn't absolutely hate it. The characters way of thought process was simple, but the plot made their whole situation quite complicated. Besides, since you get a third party perspective, you're gonna have to do a lot more inferring than usual. I think people are gonna have to reread this series a couple of times to fully grasp them. The relationship development was... triggering... it builds up to be explosive. We get this narrator pov, so it felt very limiting. The story centers around clearing a misunderstanding rather than developing a relationship, so there's not much to say about this. The plot was well thought, very creative. However, the storytelling was a bit confusing. Dialogues between narrator and characters were unclear, and at times i'm not sure what was narrating and what was talk. Also, ch 2 fucked me up. We get this little sneak peek into the feelings of the narrator's best friend only for them to not actually develop into anything.... Ugh. Waste of time. I think it's worth a read. You're either gonna love it or hate it. I wouldn't want to miss out on this outside-the-box creative piece of work.

Tags: Psychological, Crime (murder), Murderer x Reporter The Art. I wasn't feeling it at the beginning, but as the story progressed it grew on me. Although simple, the elongated bodies and limbs are very much a characteristic of Psychological thrillers and add to the mystery and darkness of the story. If you can't tolerate the art, I really recommend sticking through with the story anyway. The Characters. The author leaves a lot of space for readers to make their own judgement about what characters think and why they do what. This can be a bit confusing midpoint through the story, but it just makes it all the more satisfying and worth it. Something about the characters that you can't really understand leaves you yearning for more. The Relationship Development. Due to the nature of this work, I struggle to call it "relationship development" but following the modus operandi of my previous reviews, i'll stick with it. I have to say that whatever messed up dynamic this "couple" had, it progressed beautifully (in its own category). A true work of art, the depth of emotion for each character and the intentions behind their actions really stood out as outside the box thinking. If you're able to grasp the clever storytelling and psychology behind the characters, you'll fall in love with this relationship dynamic! The Plot. Really, this is the selling point for me. I thought I would get bored, it can become tedious if I'm not following the plot closely, but I'm glad I continued reading it. I wouldn't recommend binging this, give yourself time to process the emotions and read back and forth as much as you need to. This story is a gem in the BL world, from beginning to end, an overall linear plot with few twists... and how rare, the ending was absolutely brilliant (specially for a psychological bl). A classy plot, with beautiful foreshadowing and use of many other literary devices. Look out closely for those literary devices, they'll tie up nicely in the end. I'm giving this an 8.5/10 rating. Just taking -1 off from the art, some body proportions could be improved. Then -0.5 from the characters. I would of loved to get just a bit more insight into Clark's mind. Worth it? Absolutely, a must read!
