Ch. 1 to Ch. 13 (Vol 3) ~ Review
Satoshi walks for the first time to a gay bar and meets the prince of ni choume. He falls in love at first sight. They are about to make love when suddenly he received a call that his father has passed away so he rushes out leaving unfinished business. Only to find out a few days later that the prince of nichoume is actually the son of the second husband of his own mother.
The art is confusing at the beginning but it's amazing to see how much this author improves with time. It really does get a lot better as the series progresses. By the end of chp 13 of vol 3, I had no problems following the art. Beginning was quite bad but it's fine afterwards.
The plot is complicated but it makes up for a peculiar, funny story. The author and translator did a great job, I was able to keep up with the storytelling. This author is clearly making an effort to keep the story going so she introduces characters and side plots at critical times of the series. It kept being entertaining so I didn't mind.
The characters... I absolutely love how they all maintain their essence even as the story progresses. At no point does the uke metamorphs into a girly, good for nothing, dependent uke as often happens as yaoi progresses.
The relationship development... As I said, it's very slow, but I feel like it's worth it. It's not particularly funny, dramatic, or romantic... I'd say the highlight of it is how unique and realistic it is. It does seem to make sense and I could picture this happening irl.
This manga does not romanticize olderxyounger or incest. In fact, the stepbrother is quite adamant to follow through with the relationship given the age difference and their family situation. I found this interesting and it made me happy.
The first chapter was complicated, nevertheless, I gave it a try and oh boy, i'm glad I did. This series gets a lot better as it progresses, overall i'd say it was a good read. Worth it. I will continue reading this series and hope for an update.
