Story about friendship that blossoms from sharing a common interest. (From bully him to forming a genuinely and beautifully friendship with him.) About being your true self, accepting yourself and yours love one. Sadly, in the end, not everybody can truly be themselves. Pressure and expectation from the surrounding does really destroys one's path of being a true self. One day you'll find Shangri-La and happiness The drawing of this manga is giving off a dark and tragic feelings while reading, even when there were a happy/funny scene. But this is actually why I enjoyed it and it is beautifully done. Great art. I cry like a baby reading this (┬┬﹏┬┬)

Yaichi is a single father that work-at-home and lives with his daughter Kana in the contemporary Tokyo. One day they got a visiter from Canada, Mike Flanagan who's a widower of Yaichi's twins brother's, Ryoji. Mike is on a quest in Japan; to explore Ryoji's past and family. What follows is beautiful and touching story about acceptance but also the heartbreaking look at the state of Japan and it's heavily closeted gay culture. At first glance... Honest I thought this would be a weird movie.( Since I came across the live-action first.) Like something weird and funny. Well it got funny and happy moments in it. And personally I prefer the manga since I get to finish it faster lol. Turns out I learnt a thing or two from it. Its definitely a heart/soul touching story and makes me feel some typ of way. Plus it quite "educational" or more like it's was showing the reader/viewers that are close minded to see thing from other perspective! Characters; Kana for sure is my favorite from the beginning. She's cute and cheerful but underneath she also got her emotions. I mean having divorce parents but still trying her best to not show that she feel down from time to time in front of her dad. I think it her way from being considered. Her curiosity and understanding as a child is lovely. How she just accepted that here uncles are gay for example or when she asked if women can marry each other for her friend. Next is Mike Flanagan, I feel like he's a very understanding, kind, wise and friendly person. For example when he met with Ryoji old friend he bought up about not gonna greet him, since the friend is still in the closet. Or when Tomo's brother came out... I mean overall he was very kind to Kana and everyone. Also that he loves Ryoji so much he went to Japan to fulfill his dream for him... To continue Ryoji's promise ( ≧Д≦)(T▽T) It sure was touching. The last character is Yaichi... I thought I wouldn't like him as much as I do now. To put it simply, Yaichi was kinda against the idea of homosexual but the more time he got to spend with Mike and seeing Kana having fun and learning things from Mike makes Yaichi open up more and more. He even helped Mike to fulfill Ryoji's promise by making Mike one of the family. Introducing Mike to their parents(grave). For the story, it definitely original. I saw someone commented that they thought this manga was 95%hardcore bara and 5% plot lol. Definitely not the case since it was purely 100% plot and no sexual tension at all. Well yeea, the idea of telling a story about acceptance through "My brother's husband" is indeed new and creative for me. Our protagonist grow up and evolve his thinking by meeting his brother's husband. Him whom live with regret got the chance to open up. Also one more thing; how a person that is already gone can connect two different people together. That was super beautiful. When two people from different world who doesn't have many thing in common but can connect through the memories of a love one that is gone. In this case Mike lost Ryoji who is his husband and Yaichi lost Ryoji who is his brother. Ryoji was the one that connected Mike and Yaichi and from that bloom a beautiful friendship. And Mike was the person that remind Yaichi of that he had a brother whom He love deary, Ryoji. feel like I can relate to this. The end; When Mike had to return to Canada was so sad maaan. Kana was sad, Mike was sad and Yaichi was sad. The people that stay behind is the one that feel the most emptiness. In the live-action version they got a happier ending but honestly I'm fine with both aka I like both versions ending. The manga left us to imagine and the live version created what we imaged lol. Happy happy!! The message; What I'm taking with me after finishing this story - "There's uncertainty in tomorrow, you never know how long someone will stay and when you have to let go. But even though, you will always have today and nothing can change what we had today". How I translated it lol. Orrr "Whenever it's a place on earth or heaven, family will always be family."
