normal dude falls for a sadist, gets himself wrapped up in the world of s&m. he isn’t actually a masochist, but goes along with it because of his crush. this unveils a bumpy road full of drama between the two of them to figure out their relationship. despite the general theme at the start of the story, the s&m elements are quite healthy and consensual. i was put off and almost dropped it because of the start, but stuck it out and i’m glad i did. the storyline and how each character grows with it is deeply intertwined. you can definitely tell when an author loves their characters. they’re all unique with their own struggles to overcome—each one contributing to the plot and overall meaning of the story in their own way. we learn a lot about each of them. we see how they overcome their past traumas, face new ones, and eventually become happy. the author makes it easy to grow attached to them. the side couple is also very likable and well written. the story did have its slow moments here and there. this was especially true with the kidnap scene in the last 10 chapters. it felt very out of no where and boring. it does wrap together with what the author was trying to convey, i just feel like it could have been written better. not a major nuisance and it doesn’t change my overall opinion of the story, just a bit annoying. its not often you find bdsm stories that actually make sense with its world building, character development, and plot-line. the author nailed it, 100%. definitely worth the read, just be mindful that its incredibly plot heavy! not sure i would label it as slow burn, but its up there for sure. very angsty.
