ive re-read this childhood favourite of mine at least 8 times. very satisfying ending. thats probs another reason why i come back to it. but also the MC angst and relo. its so wholesome, the message is beautiful, the growth and depth of the characters are so well-developed. also the main characters, [ARGH] they are so cute and perfect for each other. other than the slightly nostalgic 90s comic style [which is iconic btw] this is so, so, underrated. i wish more people knew about this gem!!! the message of the story: innate goodness of humanity, despite some falling/misguided by corruption, selfishness and greed. but also hope. hope that despite their flaws, one can find redemption and their way back. i hope one day the fan base increases and someone decides to make it into an anime/tv adaptation cos the story is worth it and i would watch it. now that i think about it, it is one of the first OG isekai manga lol. before the mainstream hype first hit in the early 2010s. —— Okay after reading ~ book 8 to 10(?) most recently- I realised that this book is quite spiritual. The journey of self discovery undertaken by Noriko and Izark are not only a physical journey, but a spiritual/emotional one. And is a 22 -year-old her has learnt a more about psychology, mental health, etc, I noticed that their relationship is actually quite codependent? It was just a little bit toxic/unhealthy in the sense that they had an anxious attachment style towards each other. And traditionally that has been highly romanticised in text and stories. So it’s not something I’m really surprised by, Just something that I noticed now that I’m older having read this so many times and only noticing it, just now. This is actually happened a few times recently when I revisit old books or films lol. When I first read this, I think I was in primary school or high school? Anyway, no hate or anything, and it’s quite understandable given the trauma of constantly being chased after, put through life-threatening situations, kidnappings, injuries, being pursued by people who want to harm you and your loved ones. Naturally, they have a bit of a anxiety when the other person is not within your vision and you know that they are for sure, safe. Anyway, speaking of spiritual, (yet another recent realisation, ) but is it just me or other a lot of parallels to Christianity?? I mean, I suppose the spiritual journey, referring to the the non-physical world ‘s historically, a pinnacle of many religions. The duality of the world of light versus the world of darkness draws parallels to heaven and Hell. I suppose many religions have a pinnacle concept of a realm , or a figure of justice and its opposite evil. I guess I said Christianity because it’s the first I comes to mind, and I don’t know all that much about others . All and all, I love her, no how matter times you re-read something, you can always learn something new . this will forever be a gem in my heart
