[️️️] Checkmate (Manhwa)(during high school, a teen boy had been trying his best to place first in their exams yet he’s always bested by the most popular, handsome, and talented boy, after spending 3 years struggling and still yet never achieved his goal throughout getting teased and isolated and even trying to copy the other boy, 10 years later he living his mediocre life when news comes about the popular boy that he’s teared up his famous teacher’s painting at a public exhibition, claiming that the painting was his and he has the right to do whatever he wants with it, seeing the popular boy being shunned and gossiped about rekindled a desire to see to his downfall, so he quits his office job and joins a company as a reporter, and sets up a meeting with the popular boy)( the plot is very dark, the character are all about manipulation and scheming, the villain is a scumbag and very evil (he’s in love with the popular boy but doesn’t touch him instead he takes his friends who are also students of the famous painter guy and sexually abuses them infront of his, to keep the popular boy from leaving), I felt that the story drags a bit as the beginning focuses on the perspective of the uke and his twisted dark mind as he plans to take down the famous painter while also witnessing the desperation and isolation of the seme as he becomes hopeless and completely dependent on the uke, but by 70-75 chp it picks up nicely, I really wanted to see the uke fall apart more which he kinda does yet still keeps a calm mind so much so that he’s even more determined to capture evidence, he’s still cute though cause he loses all focus the second the seme comes into the picture, the seme at first is distant and acts like he doesn’t realise that it’s his high school classmate but later it’s revealed that he felt a bit guilty from their high school days and had wanted to connect with him and even now, the seme does lose hope but also can maintain a smug face, the uke tries to control the seme under their agreement in solving this case yet the seme never really lets him win in dominance which was amusing, the ending was happy and the extras were the best, so dang cute, I love the couple and how clingy and touchy feely they become, honestly I love their domestic sides, also on the side note although they don’t confess their love for each other, from the uke’s perspective I felt that he’s obsessiveness was truly love albeit twisted and dark at times even since high school) 7th September, 2024
