Masataka is the is the chief priest and caretaker at the shrine for God's spirit servants, lead by the 12 zodiac animals. Any animal that is one of God's servants can relax at the shine, but cats have never been welcomed. When Kotarou and the cat possessing him, Koma, show up to the shrine needing a place to stay after their own shrine burned down, Masataka, a cat lover, is happy to help them out. Though some of the zodiac animals need convincing.

On the was home from work, Aoi, a man raising his dead lover son, Ushio, finds a lost puppy and picks it up to look for its owner. But, when it runs off, it lead Aoi to a shrine with a mysterious man, who tells Aoi he shouldn't return. However, Aoi can't help feeling drawn to the man, who somehow feels similar to a dog his family had in the past.

Rio is the heir of the Kagurazaka family, a family of priests with the ability to speak with messengers of Inari. They've sustained this ability for 400 years by marring women of the Ujou family, who possess the same ability. However, Rio has just discovered his bride-to-be Yuri has run-off with another man. Rio has resigned himself to losing his ability, but Nagi, Yuri's younger brother, suddenly shows up offering himself as a replacement for his sister.
