At their high school graduation, Takashi confessed to his friend Hayate, who responded, "Until you find someone you like more than me, once a year, on your birthday, I will go on a date with you." Ten years have passed and Hayate's love has only grown. Unable to deal with his unrequited love any longer, Takashi decides to make this year the last. So, Takashi lies, "I found someone I love." When Hayate meets Takashi's love, he drunkenly tells Takashi, "You can just like me!"

Upon returning home for the summer, popular college student Ikumi discovers his family has hired gardeners and meets Harukiyo, a delinquent-looking gardener around his age. When Harukiyo treats Ikumi coldly and avoids him, Ikumi assumes he's hated. However, it turns out, Harukiyo is actually shy and gets really nervous around cool guys. Misunderstanding cleared, they've finally become friends, but, after seeing Harukiyo smile, Ikumi starts to feel more.
