The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All
You know when people say a piece of fiction is “peak” and like a work of art but when you actually finally take time to sit down and indulge in this “peak fiction” it’s actually pretty mid? That’s kinda how I felt with this. It’s rated SUPER highly and everybody loves it to bits, legit calling it a “yuri gem” but I don’t understand the hype. I think it might’ve just been the fact that I overhyped it in my head but it was honestly underwhelming. I barely felt anything while reading these 115 chapters. My favourite parts of the story were just the misunderstanding at the start which only lasts for 30 chapters but the start of the manga was the best. It might’ve been because I liked how comedic it was and enjoyed how the interactions played out with aya ranting about how cool “he” was while the dude she was talking about was sitting right beside her. I kinda find it crazy that the only characters I was super interested in was the dude the girls were friends with and the main girls uncle. I never got invested into the arcs and plot points because I could see how it would turn out from a mile away or I found that I just didn’t end up caring. And ngl I found the dialogue in this manga pretty cringe, like the entire thing of the main character being “a smooth talker” and “a prince” when the dialogue just made me cringe and the arc where the main character comes back to school after a week of being absent and has undergone a transformation and got back to the guy who made her break down, which I couldn’t even see as a cool badass moment. It was just kinda cringe. Also I hate the entire plot point right now with this underclassman having a crush on the main girl, it’s probably going to end up with the main girl getting like her songs put out into a radio station or her producing music and getting it out there but I really don’t care. I feel like people only like this manga because of the fact that the main characters listen to popular English artists like nirvana and the goddamn art style. It’s legit known as “the green yuri” because of its art style. My opinion will HOPEFULLY change in the near future but right now I can’t feel for the characters or plot. Makes me sad.
Netkama Punch!!!
Just realised I never wrote a review for this story but I think the 5 stars says it all. It’s in my top 10 bl’s for a reason, the characters are well fleshed out and interesting, the premise is fun and engaging and its overall one of the best bl’s I’ve ever read. It made my Monday’s better and I was sad to see it end. Wish they made the side stories as this was based on a novel but apparently the side stories were mature so I’m guessing the artist wasn’t comfortable with drawing it which is completely understandable and I’m kinda happy they didn’t stem into making it yaoi. I just wish we could see it continue with maybe the side characters finding out they’re dating or the main character meeting with his high school friend again and talking (but his friend sucked so idk how that would turn out.) but it was overall really good, HIGHLY recommend. 100/10
Bug Ego
By the same author as “one punch man” and “mob psycho 100” this manga is wayyy darker than his usual ones but has a unique interesting plot. Of course though you can tell this is completely different from his other works. I need to let it sit though to let it showcase itself. 6-7/10
